Your Impact

As an Associate in our Risk & Resilience Practice, you will join a client service team and take ownership of a workstream to solve some of the toughest challenges our clients face. These clients range from Fortune 500 giants to innovative startups. We expect you to go the extra mile, delivering solutions that solve immediate problems and drive long-term change. Your judgment and integrity will be crucial in ensuring our recommendations are effective and long-lasting.

You will be at the heart of the action—helping to uncover the true challenges behind a client’s strategy and creating actionable plans that drive real change. Working alongside clients and other McKinsey colleagues, you’ll combine research, data analysis, interviews, and brainstorming to generate fresh insights and breakthrough solutions. You will help clients embrace uncertainty, embed resilience, and enable growth by developing strategies integrated with their business context and goals. You will assist clients in understanding and quantifying risk exposures, evaluating risk strategies, and addressing immediate risks and gaps across all dimensions of risk management. Through data and analytics-driven scenario planning and stress-testing, you will partner with clients to build enterprise risk management capabilities, anticipate risks, and identify growth opportunities. You will help clients translate these insights into action and institutionalize resilience and crisis preparedness across the organization, embedding contingencies within long-term strategies designed to unlock sustainable growth.

Your qualifications and skills

• Advanced graduate degree strongly preferred (e.g., MBA, PhD) with undergraduate focused in a heavily quantitative discipline (mathematics, statistics, physics, computer science, etc.)
• Typically 5+ years’ experience in risk management in any industry sector and/or experience in a consultancy (with risk focus) and/or comparable experience in banking, risk regulation & compliance, capital markets, market risk, treasury & balance sheet management, credit, AML/KYC, insurance
• Exceptional analytical, quantitative, and conceptual problem-solving skills
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team and create an inclusive environment with people at all levels of an organization
• Capability to drive an independent workstream in the context of a broader team project
• Ability to communicate complex ideas effectively—both verbally and in writing—in English and the local office language(s)
• Willingness to travel
