Summary:

Responsible for organizing and coordinating patient level referrals to specialists, agencies and outpatient facilities. Coordinates pre-authorization components and requirements, worker’s compensation or other disability needs and schedules and assists in scheduling of patient appointments in coordination with peer coordinators and providers.

Minimum Qualifications:

Formal Education Required:

  • High School graduate minimum
  • Medical Assistant, Medical Office or Medial Billing experience preferred

Experience & Training Required:

  • Two (2) years of medical office experience required of which at least one (1) year of experience with insurance verification, front desk registration duties or relative medical office roles.
  • At least one (1) year experience working with an Electronic Health Record (EHR) system

Other Skills, Competencies and Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 codes
  • Demonstrated understanding of the variations in insurance plans and requirements
  • Ability to manage billing questions, co-pay questions, pre-authorization questions or other related insurance coverage regulations with patient and third party contracted payers
  • Ability to solve practical problems, interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form and to work reliably and with professionalism in a high-volume, high-demand medical environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and e-mail. Prefer skills in using referral software, using health plan web sites and familiarity with electronic medical records.
  • Excellent communication skills and demonstrated ability to work independently and within a team.
  • Ability to interact with populations of patients/customers with an understanding for their needs for self-respect and dignity
