The Transportation Maintenance III (TM III) position is a working Supervisor that has responsibilities above and beyond the performance of regular maintenance duties and activities. As a working Supervisor you are responsible for the overall maintenance and operations of a particular geographical area within the Region that supports and makes major patrol decisions to plan, develop, administer, and manage programs such as MS-4 regulations and EPA requirements. Also, this position is responsible for knowing how to react in emergency situations, such as when avalanches and road failures occur.
This position includes signature authority for expenditures, approval authority for its employee’ credit card use, expense report approval, supply ordering approval, and leave approval, just to name a few approval items. At the Supervisory level you may recommend corrective actions, staffing patterns, equipment purchases, regional policy changes and much more. This position has a very strong working relationship with the LTC Ops I in the Unit and supports higher level decisions.

Examples of road/highway maintenance experience: repairing potholes; performing asphalt or concrete paving operations; operating heavy equipment such as bulldozers, motor graders, backhoes, front end loaders and other heavy equipment to repair and/or maintain roads; maintaining right-of-way fences; performing street striping and marking; performing mechanical mowing along the roadside (e.g. handheld weed eater up to a 15' rotary mower); performing bridge; roadside ditch and culvert cleaning and maintenance; installing and/or maintaining roadway signs or guardrail; operating mechanical sweepers; conducting traffic control; or performing mechanical snow removal (gator up to a tandem truck).
Examples of work lead experience: partially responsible for leading and mentoring at least two full-time employees in some or all of the following areas: giving input into performance goals and reviews, applying standard operating procedures, assigning tasks, prioritizing work, identifying and gathering resources to complete tasks, checking work product, dealing with emergencies, conducting safety checks. (Equivalent classifications are Highway Maintenance Worker II; Equipment Operator IV; Pipe/Mechanical Trades at a tunnel; and Structural Trades if working on bridge, traffic control, or roadwork at CDOT).
