POSITION:

The Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Tonja Williams Knight, is interested in receiving applications from qualified candidates for the position of:

Supervisor of Special Education – Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS)

QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates must hold a master’s degree, a New York State certificate in Special Education or a related field such as school social worker, school psychologist or speech pathologist, and a New York State School District Administrator (SDA), New York State School Supervisor (SAS), New York State School Building Leader (SBL) or New York State School District Leader (SDL) certificate by the time of appointment. Candidates must have a minimum of five years of approved teaching and/or administrative experience Candidates with strong knowledge of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS)/Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS), Restorative Practices, Trauma-Informed Care, Functional Behavioral Assessments and Behavior Intervention Plans are preferred. Knowledge of the Regulations of the Commissioner of Education, Part 200 Students with Disabilities Required.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Supervisor of Special Education will report to the Director of Special Education and will be responsible for, but not limited to the following:

  • Assist in monitoring the implementation of MTSS/PBIS by the Student Support Teams
  • Assist in supervising the work of school social workers as it relates to both SST and CSE responsibilities
  • Assist in supervising the work of school psychologists as it relates to both SST and CSE responsibilities
  • Supervise behavioral specialists assigned to the Division of Special Education
  • Monitor all CSE requirements and actions
  • Audit compliance with Part 200 Regulations
  • Provide supports to teachers on instructional interventions and best practices for instruction and behavior
  • Participate as a member of the administrative team as it relates to staff and professional development
  • Provide ongoing support to buildings
  • Develop and provide professional development to teachers and paraprofessionals and staff
  • Assist with design and implementation of department procedures to improve service to students with disabilities
  • Conduct formal observations in alignment with the APPR process
  • Attend required district and department meetings
  • Other duties as assigned

APPOINTMENT:

Appointment will be made by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Superintendent following the assessment of training, experience, credentials, evaluation of service, program needs, and personal interview.

SALARY: Per Administrator salary schedule
