Required Degree: Ph.D. in History, Middle Eastern/Near Eastern Studies, or related field.
The required degree must be completed by the start date.
Experience: Continuing faculty status track appointment (BYU equivalent of "tenure") at Brigham Young University, to begin July 2026, for a scholar with expertise in Middle East history, preferably with a specialization in the period 600-1800 CE. Those with exceptional teaching and a strong research agenda are encouraged to apply. Salary commensurate with experience and rank.
Duties/Expectations: Teaching load will include two Middle East History courses annually (HIST 240: “Middle East to 1800” and HIST 241: “Middle East since 1800”) and history service courses, with the additional possibility of teaching within field of specialization. Average teaching load will typically be 12 credit hours over fall and winter semesters and 3 credit hours during either spring or summer term. In addition to teaching, the expectations of this position include scholarly research and publication, and committee service.
