Job Title: Distribution Field Technician

Job Description

The Distribution Field Technician will report to the Kettering, OH office daily. This role involves traveling into the field to conduct visual inspections of overhead and underground electrical distribution equipment. The technician will compile field data, prepare minor work orders, and generate maintenance reports for distribution equipment. Key tasks include measuring and mapping out LVD systems and identifying electrical equipment on poles.

Responsibilities

  • Perform various field technical services for the operation, inspection, and maintenance of electrical distribution systems, including system inventories and audits, joint use management and permitting, pad-mount inspections, ground-line pole inspections, metering and apparatus services, and lighting audits.
  • Collect field data using laptop computers, tablet devices, GPS, and other electronic devices for input into database software as necessary.
  • Develop a working knowledge of the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), electric utility construction standards, and telephone, cable, and other communication facilities.
  • Operate necessary equipment such as height sticks and range finders to take measurements on utility poles and mid-span facilities, and perform pole inspections and maintenance on pad-mount equipment.
  • Achieve weekly billable goals as defined by the project guidelines.

Essential Skills

  • Data collection and field data analysis skills.
  • Utility locating expertise.
  • Minimum of a high school diploma required, associate degree preferred.
  • Proficiency in using height sticks, NESC, LVD, overhead lines, pole analysis, and power distribution design.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in working with customers, landowners, and clientele to facilitate power utility asset replacements and upgrades.
  • Ability to perform pre-field work, design analysis, and fieldwork to ensure timely data delivery to clients.

Work Environment

The technician is required to report to the Grand Rapids office daily. Upon arrival, they will be assigned to another team member who will drive them to their designated location for the day to start data collection. Most work will be conducted within an hour from the office. The schedule typically involves working four 10-hour days, with the option to expand to five 10-hour days.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $24.00/hr.
