Job Description

The Histology Technician IV will perform all routine and special paraffin histotechnology duties in a state-of-the-art CAP-certified pathology laboratory. Under the guidance of a Lead Histotechnologist, you will provide high-quality diagnostic material within established turnaround times.

Responsibilities

• Cut, stain, and perform tasks required to process tissue in the Immunohistochemistry laboratory.
• Perform accurate gross description on tissue samples.
• Execute quality control procedures established for each method and maintain accurate records.
• Operate all instruments and equipment according to accepted written procedures and recognize and identify instrument/equipment problems.
• Meet acceptable turnaround time and productivity standards for the section.
• Recognize testing errors, discrepancies, or problems and notify appropriate personnel; assist in problem resolution.
• Record, transcribe, and maintain records of patient test results according to protocol.
• Assist other personnel with identifying and analyzing inconsistent and abnormal results.
• Review accuracy and completeness of results prior to releasing in the Laboratory Information System.
• Complete routine and STAT testing within acceptable turnaround time guidelines.

Essential Skills

• Associate degree in medical technology, chemistry, biology, or related life science
• Formal training in Histology from an accredited program (720 hours).
• Skills in microtomy, grossing, processing, embedding, cutting, and routine special staining techniques.
• At least 6 months experience with cutting and embedding required

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• ASCP certification is not required
• Proficiency with laboratory equipment and lab testing.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $38.00/hr.
