Delaware North Parks and Resorts is hiring a full-time Fleet Mechanic to join our team at the Kennedy Space Center in Merritt Island, Florida. As a Fleet Mechanic, you will be responsible for performing mechanical, electrical, air conditioning, and body work repair maintenance on motorcoaches and support vehicles, including field service operations. $25.43 - $44.55 / hour

What will you do?

  • Recognize and repair electronic or electrical malfunctions occurring on fleet vehicles/busses.
  • Assist Mechanics or independently perform mechanical, body, and air conditioning repairs to fleet vehicles as required.
  • Maintain and repair UHF radio systems and associated equipment.
  • Drive buses to breakdowns and move buses to repair locations.
  • Perform a range of repairs to electrical or electronic systems and make mechanical and bodywork repairs on buses as required.
  • Serve as environmental/safety point of contact.
  • Vehicle servicing and other duties as required.

More about you

  • Must be 21 years old to apply.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, manuals, work orders, and work schedules.
  • Effective communication to report on repair requirements and instruct helpers.
  • Ability to use meters and electrical or electronic measuring devices, hand and hand power tools, forklift truck, freon recovery equipment, oxyacetylene and arc welding equipment, drill press, grinder, pressure gauges, air gun, compressor, pumps, wash stations, jacks, and precision measuring devices and two-way radios.
  • Must have a Valid Florida Class “B” Commercial Driver’s License to apply. This is required.
  • P endorsement has to be attained within six months of hire.
  • Requires ASE Certification in Freon recovery recycling, diesel & gasoline engines, and heavy-duty brakes.
  • RCRA Hazardous Waste Management and SPCC Oil-Handling on site training.
  • Annual refresher training to meet the requirements of 40 CFR 265.16 and 40 CFR 112.7(f).

Physical requirements

  • Requires work outdoors with the presence of fumes, grease, oil, dust, noise, solvents, and fluids.
  • Requires wearing Personal Protective Equipment (steel-toed shoes, eyewear, gloves, hearing protection) where designated.
  • Requires standing for long periods, pushing, pulling, stooping, bending and reaching, lifting, or manipulating between 5 and 25 pounds for more than 70 percent of the day.
  • Requires occasional manipulation of weights over 100 pounds and participation in the manipulation of very heavy objects.
