Job Overview: Formulation and packaging are a significant and strategic part of FMC’s operations globally. The North America Improvement Engineer will use their technical capabilities to make meaningful change for the organization to enable continued business growth and ensure the agility required to meet the demands of a dynamic market. As the primary technical support of the NA Formulation & Packaging network, the NA Improvement Engineer will provide expertise to a variety of technical areas including continuous improvement, capital project execution, manufacturing support, sustainability, new product introductions, and overall process improvements while driving the safety culture of the FMC organization in daily activities. Working with various levels of onsite and corporate leadership, technology, maintenance, operations, R&D, quality, supply chain, and engineering teams, the NA Improvement Engineer will lead strategically, proactively, and purposefully to implement solutions which continually improve our safe, sustainable, and reliable formulation & packaging processes.

The NA Improvement Engineer position is based at our FMC Formulation Site (Wyoming, IL) and reports to the NA Formulations and Packaging Technical Center Manager.

Safety:

  • Serve as a role model and champion for EHS excellence and injury free culture
  • Support maintenance and/or development of process safety information, as needed
  • Support PHA process and group safety reviews on Site processes

New Product Introductions, Alternate Material and Site Transfers:

  • Assess site capabilities for the ability to manufacture potential new or re-sited products
  • Work cooperatively with FMC stakeholders to design safe, efficient commercial manufacturing processes for new products
  • Ensure all steps of MOC process are completed for new project implementation, including HAZOP, PHA and lessons learned meetings
  • Design and develop product launch test protocols and reports with R&D.
  • On-site support of the commissioning of production units or new product introductions during trial production, optimization and validation, as needed. Help establish standard production rates & efficiencies which can be used for performance monitoring

New Technology and Capital Project Development:

  • Leverage knowledge and data to provide recommendations for process technology advancements
  • Identify capital projects for process improvement, expansion, and cost-savings opportunities
  • Develop and execute test protocols to determine the viability of a new technology
  • Manage / Lead process design, equipment selection & sizing, specify control logic & design, piping & utility requirements through coordination and preparation of CDP packages for assigned projects
  • Support plant Operations in identifying improvement opportunities through review of performance data

Manufacturing Support:

  • Support operations through supplemental review of performance data to identify develop long term improvement plans to further optimize various processes
  • Develop necessary trial plans to test optimization ideas, analyze data, and create reports of findings
  • Lead and/or participate in Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) for significant safety, quality, or manufacturing failures
  • Management and tracking of ongoing qualification efforts from initial testing and assessment by the R&D organization through production scale trials.
  • Work with internal groups to assess and track opportunities and risks such as cost impacts, relative quality, supply continuity, etc.
  • Other tasks as assigned

Education:

  • BS in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field required
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in manufacturing or related field operation
  • 5 of experience in a chemical operations environment preferred
  • Six Sigma certification preferred

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated commitment to personal safety and safety leadership
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively communicate technical and non-technical information with global internal and external partners
  • The ability to establish and maintain a positive and professional working relationship with individuals at all levels of the company including client representatives and subcontractors
  • Working knowledge of equipment design, scale-up procedures, troubleshooting, project management skills, and change management experience
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office knowledge (expert level Excel), Minitab or other statistical tools (a plus), and SAP knowledge (preferred).
  • Collaborate effectively across interdisciplinary teams with an operating style that fosters open dialogue, creates a strong sense of team, inspires, and motivates others to achieve project goals
  • Experience applying data-based decision making and strong results driven/action orientated approach to leadership
  • Knowledge of quality assurance programs or statistical quality control a plus
  • Root cause analysis, process hazard analysis, and chemical manufacturing experience preferred.

The base salary range for this position is $95,400 – $127,200 per year. Actual compensation will be based on factors such as experience, skills, and location.
