A Brief Summary of This Position:

This position is responsible for overseeing quality control activities and leading quality control inspectors. The Quality Control Lead ensures timely and accurate internal and external inspections, internal and external audit assignments, and enforcement of Quality Management System (QMS) procedures and specifications. In addition, this position ensures adequate shop floor coverage from QC inspectors to support operations productivity goals.

Shift: M-TH 9pm-7am (Nights - 3rd shift)

Pay: $38.86 hourly base rate + $.75 hourly Lead allowance + $1.00 hourly shift differential

Essential Functions:

  • This position reports to the next level supervisor or manager of quality department and mentors 1-to-15 indirect reports
  • Provides feedback of NDT inspectors for reviews, evaluations, succession planning, and development plans
  • Conducts onboarding, OJT training, and oversight of inspectors to ensure success in their role
  • Enforces procedures and work instructions for inspection of various manufactured and purchased products in conjunction with QC Technical Coordinators, Customer Requirements, Engineering, and Drafting
  • Serves as an advocate for the customer, clarifying and reinforcing customer expectations, and fostering a culture of quality
  • Monitors production processes, and intervene when appropriate to support process control
  • Assists team members with interpretation of shop drawings and specifications, QMS requirements, and customer specifications, including obtaining clarification from other functions to ensure that quality requirements are understood and met
  • Performs inspection and testing duties assigned, including visual/dimensional inspection, welding inspection, coating inspection, and non-destructive testing
  • Establishes and maintains professional working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

  • AWS CWI certification
  • Intermediate (Level II NDT certifications) SNT-TC-1A NDT Level II in UT, VT, MT, and PT
  • High School Diploma (or equivalent) and 7+ years of work/educational experience or associate’s degree with 5+ years’ experience or bachelor’s degree
  • Excellent leadership, problem solving, planning, customer service, and written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledgeable of specific process requirements for the site and any coatings/finish processes that apply
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision making informed, make rational decisions
  • Able to persuade and motivate others
  • Able to interpret codes and standards, shop drawings, and specifications
  • A strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook

Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications:

  • Previous quality control management experience in heavy fabrication environment
  • Other certifications required by the site for the quality supervisor or manager positions
  • Certification as a quality manager or quality engineer (e.g. ASQ CMQ/OE or ASQ CQE) (not required but would make them highly qualified)
  • Formal Lean Six Sigma training or experience leading Lean Six Sigma projects

Working Environment and Physical Efforts:

Work is performed in a factory setting, with most of the time being spent moving around different areas of manufacturing and shipping areas. The incumbent is regularly required to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time, as well as talk and listen on the phone and in personal conversations or meetings. This position will be exposed to all hazards located at manufacturing sites including noise, fumes, excessive heat/cold, dust, welding arc, all chemicals associated with the manufacturing areas, fire, smoke, unstable debris and confined spaces. Environment is fast-paced and demanding most of the time. This position may require long days to support the Quality initiative for a multi-shift operation.

The employee is frequently required to use hands to fingers, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms while working in the office with various files and forms and while working on the computer. Incumbent must utilize proper ergonomic safeguards such as monitor height and positions, keyboard location and height and proper wrist rests. The incumbent must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds in working with large files, binders, computer equipment and shop equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
