The Mishkin Gallery Specialist is responsible for managing its day-to-day operations. The Specialist is responsible for both the permanent collection of Baruch College and artwork for specific exhibitions. The Specialist will be expected to build the reputation of the gallery by collecting and exhibiting work by important artists and by creating high levels of interest among student body, the art community, and the public. This position reports to the Dean of Weissman School of Arts and Sciences

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Creates design concepts and layouts for exhibitions
  • Assists with programming of in-house and traveling exhibitions and collaborates with others to develop layouts to showcase the work. Negotiates the terms with artists and their agents, or with owners of important works, and arranges for the collection, installation, and insurance of the work.
  • Collaborates with professors and students as it pertains to utilizing the museum collections in course curriculum. Gives tours of the exhibits to students, faculty and college stakeholders.
  • Maintain and track museum exhibition budgets.
  • Works with members of the gallery advisory board and organizes meetings.
  • Coordinate fundraising initiatives and solicit donations.
  • Prepare exhibition catalogs, working with graphic designers, photographers, and printers. promote exhibitions to the wider community through a gallery website, posters, invitations to people on the gallery mailing list, and editorial coverage in the media.
  • Supervises staff members such as college assistants, gallery fellows and student aides

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree and four years' related experience required.

Preferred Qualifications:

The Mishkin Gallery Specialist must have an understanding and appreciation of the visual arts, combined with the business and marketing skills to supervise the profitable operation of the gallery.

  • Responds to requests for information and/or loan, and all educational materials, researching the collection as needed
  • Administers gallery activities, such as maintaining computerized records on equipment, materials, and other inventory; updating web pages, etc.
  • Participates in organizing events, promotional efforts, and exhibition marketing
  • Supervises daily gallery operations and maintenance of the collection
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

$82,928- $93,134; Salary commensurate with education and experience.
