We are seeking a skilled and proactive Cloud Database Administrator to join our team. The ideal candidate will bring a strong foundation in on-premises SQL Server administration, combined with hands-on experience in Azure cloud services, database design, data warehousing, and ETL pipeline development. This role will play a key part in our cloud migration initiatives, performance optimization, and end-to-end data lifecycle management.

What you will do:

  • Administer and maintain on-prem SQL Server environments, including backups, restores, replication, and high availability setups.
  • Design, deploy, and manage Azure SQL databases, Cosmos DB, and other Azure data services (e.g., Azure Data Factory, Synapse Analytics).
  • Lead the design and architecture of scalable and secure databases optimized for cloud environments.
  • Build and maintain data warehouses to support business intelligence, analytics, and reporting needs.
  • Develop and maintain ETL pipelines using tools like Terraforms, Fabric Data Pipelines, SSIS, or other modern data integration platforms.
  • Work within agile cadences in small, cross-functional teams, participating in sprint planning, stand-ups, and review sessions to share best practices and ensure alignment.
  • Monitor database performance and troubleshoot performance bottlenecks in both cloud and on-prem systems.
  • Ensure database security, compliance, and access control in accordance with enterprise policies.
  • Support cloud migration and hybrid data infrastructure strategies.
  • Collaborate with data engineers, architects, and developers to ensure seamless data flow and integrity.
  • Leverage CI/CD tools and Git to version control database code, automate deployments, and enforce consistency across environments.
  • Build database monitoring using tools such as Datadog for performance insights and proactive remediations.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • 10+ years of experience with Microsoft SQL Server administration (on-prem).
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure, particularly in Azure SQL Database, Azure Data Factory, and Azure Synapse.
  • Proven experience in database schema design, data modeling, and normalization/denormalization techniques for cloud databases.
  • Strong understanding of ETL processes and tools (e.g., ADF, SSIS, custom pipelines).
  • Solid experience with data warehousing concepts and implementation.
  • Proficiency with T-SQL, PowerShell, Terraform and scripting for automation and orchestration.
  • Familiarity with cloud security best practices, governance, and compliance frameworks.
  • Experience with performance tuning, indexing strategies, and query optimization.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical thinking, and communication skills.
  • Experience working with APIs and being able to create simple APIs for data aggregation.
  • Microsoft certifications such as Azure Database Administrator Associate or Azure Solutions Architect preferred
  • Experience with DevOps for databases, CI/CD pipelines, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) preferred
  • Exposure to NoSQL databases, Big Data tools, or Python for data manipulation preferred
