JOB PROFILE SUMMARY:

Under the direct supervision of the manager, provide efficient and effective administration of operations in the area of animal care, in support of teaching, training, and implementing administrative processes aligned with CMARC operations. Provide a liaison function with other areas and with external organizations. Support activities related to general operations including, but not limited to: physical resources, supply chain, finance and supervision of staff. Manage customer service and support. Participates as a resource person for CMARC area service providers. Directly supervises a team of Animal Attendants, Animal Science Technicians and Chief Animal Science Technicians (CAST) as assigned. With guidance from the ACM, coaches the CASTs in planning and completing work aligned with institutional priorities by helping them implement best practices in the day-to-day operations and research support,

TYPICAL FUNCTIONS

  • Perform and organize activities to support the daily operations of the unit by ensuring that operational and administrative services are carried out in accordance with established goals and objectives.
  • Implement procedures or systems that are moderately complex in support of CMARC’s operations and ensure activities meet or exceed established quality requirements. Assist the Animal Care Manager with the preparation of operating and capital budgets and funding applications, namely of consumables at CMARC.
  • Monitor quality of work in CMARC area, investigate non-conformities, quality defects, deficiencies, among other events , identify possible issues and causes, and propose solutions to be implemented under the guidance of the manager.
  • Customer service oriented: respond to research community inquiries and complaints.
  • Maintain a positive relationship with research community.
  • Establish and foster effective working relationships by identifying needs and providing support in the delivery of services.
  • Administer physical resources of the unit or building in compliance with university, government regulations and CCAC guidelines.
  • Monitor and reconcile accounts; assist in the preparation of reports and statements.
  • Approve expenditures within established guidelines.
  • Plan meetings, record and take accurate minutes of discussions and decisions, distribute minutes (e.g. committees will evolve around operations at CMARC). Plans and maintains space, inventory and oversees CAST purchasing. Interacts with facility service units for required services to the building, such as renovations, security, emergency responses, safety, etc.
  • Assess and resolve administrative problems, including conflict resolution. Directly supervise a team of Animal Attendants, Animal Technician(s), Animal Science Technician(s), and Chief Animal Science Technicians.
  • Meet with employees, organize workflow, verify work, give feedback and provide coaching and training. Participate in hiring and performance reviews.
  • Oversee the process of schedule creation and resource planning
  • Approve overtime, absences and vacation.

Sunday to Thursday schedule

This position is to support the operations at the GCC building.

On campus presence: 5 days/week
