POSITION OVERVIEW

The University of Minnesota Alumni Association is seeking a strategic and creative leader to drive our marketing efforts, creating campaigns that connect alumni to meaningful programs—from membership and giving to the MN Alumni Market and beyond. In this dynamic role, you’ll lead integrated marketing strategies across digital, print, and in-person channels—ensuring consistent, impactful messaging that fuels alumni relationships and advances our mission.

The Sr. Marketing Manager will lead a cross-functional marketing strategy that drives results, elevates the UMAA brand, and ensures a cohesive experience across all touchpoints. Reporting to the Vice President of Marketing & Business Development, this results-oriented leader will develop and execute campaigns that integrate across channels—social, email, web, and events—while aligning with core revenue goals. With a strong eye toward innovation and data-informed decision-making, this role plays a critical part in amplifying revenue generation that supports the long-term growth of the association.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Marketing Strategy and Campaign Development (70%)

  • Design and manage integrated marketing campaigns that support revenue goals across UMAA programs—including membership, donations, the MN Alumni Market, and more.
  • Apply the UMAA brand consistently and effectively across all channels, ensuring clear, cohesive messaging in digital communications (social, email, web) and in-person experiences (events, partner activations).
  • Bring sharp marketing instincts and a high standard for execution to every campaign—delivering work that’s both strategic and polished.
  • Collaborate with internal and external creative partners (designers, writers, vendors) to produce high-quality marketing materials that align with brand standards and campaign goals.
  • Work across teams to align marketing efforts, reduce redundancy, and present a unified experience to alumni.
  • Use data and audience insights to tailor content, messaging, and calls to action—driving engagement and results.
  • Track and analyze campaign performance, adjusting strategies to maximize impact and meet defined objectives.

Stay Current, Use the Right Tools and Drive Efficiency (20%)

  • Monitor marketing trends and technologies to keep UMAA’s approach modern and competitive.
  • Apply data and analytics to improve performance, targeting, and return on investment.
  • Collaborate across teams to use marketing tools effectively—CRM, email platforms, automation, and analytics.
  • Partner with operations to improve the alumni journey where it intersects with marketing—especially for joining, giving, and participating.
  • Build systems and processes that improve consistency and reduce time spent on repeat work.

Manage Budgets and Resources for Impact (10%)

  • Oversee marketing budgets tied to core revenue areas.
  • Allocate resources strategically, balancing cost with results.
  • Make smart choices that allow for high-quality execution across multiple projects.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or related field.
  • At least four years of marketing experience with a record of driving measurable results.
  • Experience managing and monitoring budgets.Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience working with diverse audiences.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines independently and collaboratively.
  • Availability to occasionally staff evening or weekend events related to position responsibilities.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Passion for the University of Minnesota and its mission.
  • At least three years of experience in membership marketing, loyalty programs, donor programs, or product sales.
  • Hands-on experience using CRM systems and applying data to strategy.
  • Knowledge of direct marketing and targeted segmentation strategies.
  • Familiarity with retention, loyalty, and engagement best practices.
  • Strong organizational skills and comfort working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with digital marketing platforms and tools.
  • Passion for the mission of the University of Minnesota and alumni engagement.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently, collaboratively, and flexibly in a fast-paced environment.

Pay and Benefits

The salary range for this position is $70,000 - $80,000 depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment Category: 75%-100% Appointment (If job description above does not specify appointment or expected weekly hours, assume a 100% appointment.)
