SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA) – Expert Level

(Hybrid - Toronto)

About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Sr SQL Server DBA to join our team supporting a critical Application Software Development project within the Technology & Operations Development Plan.

As a Sr DBA, you will be responsible for managing, securing, and optimizing enterprise-level databases across multiple platforms. You will play a key role in database design, performance tuning, automation, and DevSecOps integration.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, engineer, and deploy RDBMS and NoSQL databases including Db2 LUW, Netezza, Oracle, SQL Server, Postgres, MongoDB, AWS RDS, Redshift.
• Plan and execute database migrations and upgrades.
• Implement automation and DevSecOps pipelines (e.g., Ansible, AWS CDK, GitHub Actions, Liquibase).
• Monitor and optimize database performance, capacity, and availability.
• Develop and maintain backup and recovery strategies.
• Ensure compliance with security, audit, and regulatory standards.
• Test and assess impacts of new database software releases.
• Provide on-call support for critical issues.

Required Qualifications:

• 5+ years of hands-on DBA experience with at least two of the following: Db2 LUW, Netezza, Oracle, SQL Server, Postgres, MongoDB.
• 1+ years of hands-on experience with AWS RDS, Redshift, DynamoDB.
• Strong understanding of SDLC and database automation tools.
• Proficiency in scripting (Shell, Python, SQL).
• Excellent communication, analytical, and collaboration skills.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).

Additional Information:

• Contract Length: 12 Months (with potential for extension or full-time conversion)
• Hybrid
• Hours: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM (Core Business Hours)

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $68.00 - $75.00/hr.
