We are seeking a strategic and highly analytical Finance Business Partner to support the Bermuda / Europe and Small Commercial underwriting leadership teams. This role will serve as a trusted advisor, delivering financial transparency, actionable insights and financial guidance to support strategic decision-making, performance improvement, and value creation. This role will serve as a steward of the financial statements and coordinate the financial planning process for the two operations. The ideal candidate is extremely pro-active and combines deep financial expertise with strong business acumen and the ability to influence senior leaders.

This is a new role for our organization and we're looking for a candidate to come in and build meaningful relationships with the underwriting leadership teams while ensuring the proper processes and tools are in place to enable their success.

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance or a related discipline
  • MBA or MBA pursuit a plus

Work Experience/Skill Set

  • Minimum 3-5 years of business related experiences
  • Understanding of financial processes and systems
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Must have strong Excel and data manipulation skills
  • Ability to deliver outstanding customer service
  • Organized with ability to multi-task
  • Adaptable and comfortable with fast pace and shifting priorities
  • Mastery of analyst level financial skills and business acumen
  • Proven ability to take on and lead complex tasks
  • Ability to work independently but seeks help as appropriate
  • Financial consulting and analysis skills - ability to assess needs, identify issues, recommend alternatives and implement change

Job Responsibilities

  • Develops and maintains models and tools to support effective and efficient analysis
  • Documents standard processes and process flows
  • Identifies, recommends and implements continuous process improvements
  • Develops and maintains allocations to product
  • Participates & presents quarterly/annual results to Senior & Divsional leadership
  • Serve as a steward of the division's financial statements, ensuring accuracy and transparency, as well as identifying opportunities for improvement
  • Participate in ad hoc initiatives as they arise
  • Produce clear reports that summarize financial output, issues and recommendations
  • Provide decision support through valued added analysis and financial insights
  • Supports reporting needs of the broader organization to provide increased visibility of financial performance
  • Coordinate the compilation and provide analysis of the annual budget and quarterly forecast
  • Supports the organization in opportunity identification, data-based decision-making and performance assessment
  • Travel to other Markel offices, conferences, etc. as required
  • Work with multiple internal teams to gain a deeper understanding of financial data, to confirm assumptions, and validate output of analyses

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance or a related discipline
  • MBA or MBA pursuit a plus

Certification

  • CPCU or other industry designations a plus
