Job Description

What you’ll do at OhioMHAS:

This position focuses on supporting adults by providing pre-vocational screening, vocational rehabilitation

counseling, coordination of community vocational placement services, and development of vocational rehabilitation programs for clients to develop and enhance their abilities to function within society. Staff work closely with team members to develop appropriate work and training programs for clients, contributing to a structured and supportive community. Additional duties include:

  • Refer clients to appropriate work/training programs and counsel clients on career planning.
  • Monitor client work performance, provide job coaching, and vocational programming on and off units.
  • Maintain a job bank of community competitive job placement and facilitate activities to educate clients on small business skills, including the marketing, creation, and selling of products made by clients through the client garden and other programming.
  • Acts as a liaison with other organizations or businesses regarding vocational programming.
  • Educates clients on laws and resources regarding minimum wage, employment of disabled workers, and financial wellness.
  • Participates in team meetings to plan and write integrated rehab goals, objectives, and interventions.
  • Monitors client progress, compiles attendance reports, assists with therapeutic recreational activities as needed, and escorts clients to on and off-unit programming.

This is an hourly position covered by the Ohio Health Care SEIU/1199 bargaining unit (union), with a pay range of #10 on the Ohio Health Care SEIU/1199 Pay Range Schedule. Normal working hours are 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. This position is located within our Appalachian Behavioral Healthcare Campus at 100 Hospital Drive, Athens, Ohio 45701.

Unless required by any applicable union contract and/or requirements of the Ohio Revised Code, the selected candidate will begin at Step 1 of the pay range schedule listed above, with an opportunity for pay increase after six months of satisfactory performance and then a yearly raise thereafter.

Additional Salary / Appointment Information:

  • Must be able to complete a 2-week (business days Monday-Friday) full-time orientation
  • May be exposed to communicable diseases and unpredictable patient behavior
  • Training and development are required to remain in the classification after employment

Qualifications

30 mos. exp. counseling persons who are mentally ill or developmentally disabled or other disadvantaged group of people.

  • Or completion of undergraduate core program in human services area (e.g., rehabilitation counseling, social work, psychology, occupational therapy) & 12 mos. exp. counseling persons who are mentally ill or developmentally disabled or other disadvantaged group of people.
  • Or completion of graduate core program in human services area (e.g., rehabilitation counseling, social work, psychology, occupational therapy).
  • Or alternative, equivalent evidence of the Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.
