Quality Manager

Overview: We are an established and fast-growing precision machining business servicing Aerospace, Energy and other industrial manufacturers. We have made substantial investments in equipment and our people. Our firm has always had a reputation for being a high-quality supplier. Our Quality program is comprehensive, and we continually perform well in annual audits and customer surveys. At this point in our growth, we are seeking a Quality Manager to lead our Quality program. The successful candidate will bring both an ability to strategically align Quality with the firm’s growth strategy and a hands-on approach interfacing with our engineers, machinists, customer quality and engineering experts and more. We are NOT seeking an individual who stays in his/her office all day, preparing complicated reports and doing the minimum. We are about action and making things happen. To harness opportunities, our Quality program needs to be best in class, and we expect the successful candidate to be able to make positive changes and additions to an already strong program. Outlined below are the key responsibilities and requirements of this role.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Take ownership of the Company’s Quality program. This includes but is not limited to:
    • Having a comprehensive understanding of the current program. Support the AS9100D / ISO9001 Quality Management System relative to company goals and requirements. Where necessary, establish new QMS controls and consolidate QMS requirements to align with standard practices and procedures with AS9100D/ISO9001.
    • Making recommendations and implementing changes that enhance the firm’s ability to mitigate risks and errors, improve efficiencies and ensure that all documentation is in order.
    • Providing training and education to employees regarding quality, proper procedures, etc.
    • Conduct Supplier Audits
    • Conducting inspections of in process and finished goods. This will include the use of various manual and automated tools.
    • Oversee any modification/repair/rework and on occasion make such repairs.
    • Identify product and process non-conformances and implement corrective actions to mitigate root causes of non-conformance.
    • Complete and Prepare First Article Inspections and documentation.
  • Lead the annual ISO/AS audit process. assigning activities to key individuals, data gathering, preparing the presentation and educating all staff on general expectations for the audit. Ensure all employees are up to date and fully aware of the Company’s Quality policy.
  • Take a proactive approach to new and more sophisticated projects by consulting with the customer and its quality professionals to better understand their requirements, how they will inspect and measure and ensure that our processes support the desired results.
  • Take a proactive approach with suppliers and make sure outside processes are performed in accordance with customer requirements.
  • Provide Management with data summarizing trends and identifying corrective actions.
  • Mentor staff. We seek an individual who can inspire by example and who enjoys helping others achieve their potential.

Requirements:

  • Above all, we seek someone who is passionate about quality in a manufacturing environment.
  • 10+ years’ experience overall, with at least 5+ years overseeing a Quality program at a manufacturing facility with ISO/AS quality systems or equivalent. Consideration will be given to candidates with less than 5 years of oversight experience if all experience is in implementing the ISO/AS standards.
  • Preference for someone coming from an aerospace/aviation manufacturing environment.
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Effective communication skills and a desire to work collaboratively with others.
  • Proven ability to work with little supervision; initiative-taking and self-reliant.
  • Any manufacturing quality certifications recognized by the American Society for Quality (ASQ) such as CMQ/OE, CQPA, CQE, and CQA seen as favorable but not mandatory.
