Georgia-Pacific has opening for a Lubrication Technician in our Sweetwater, TX Gypsum Facility. This Lubrication Technician is an important member of the Maintenance and Reliability teams. This position will be responsible for working with the Reliability and Maintenance teams to lubricate equipment, assist Maintenance Technicians with working on equipment, and practice precision maintenance in all aspects of the job. The Lubricator is responsible for learning the equipment in each area of the facility, lubrication procedures for the equipment, contamination issues, oil sampling techniques, and other common issues in different areas. Selected candidates will have a focus on continuous improvement in our reliability processes.

What You Will Do

  • Adhere to all plant safety and environmental guidelines, policies and procedures and actively participate in safety program.
  • Understand lubrication principles and concepts, how to identify recommended lubricants, and the frequency of lubricants.
  • Work with Maintenance team members to lubricate equipment and report machinery defects/malfunctions while documenting your work on the work order.
  • Inspecting equipment for vibration, noise, looseness, temperature, and/or odor.
  • Work with team members and the Storeroom to obtain needed parts by coordinating inventory levels and ensuring proper labeling and tagging.
  • Perform lubrication responsibilities to include, but not limited to, greasing bearings, lubricating chains, adding/changing oil in gear boxes and/or oil reservoirs, and inspecting oil and equipment and reporting potential problems.
  • Perform routine and non-routine lubrication functions and services on facility machinery and supporting equipment.
  • Maintain and repair all lubrication systems for machine centers and supporting equipment.
  • Mechanical modification of systems as directed to facilitate sampling and filtration, and other proactive improvements.
  • Maintain reservoir systems through filling, draining and cleaning activities, and maintenance of filters and breathers on reservoirs.
  • Perform sample analysis by scheduling, collecting, labeling and mailing samples for analysis; including field level oil analysis: Crackle, Viscosity, Demulsibility and Blotter Test.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and repairs to the oil/water separator system.
  • Work to identify lubrication points throughout the facility and help develop and improve lube related preventive maintenance activities.
  • Utilize and maintain dispensing equipment and automatic systems.
  • Maintain organization and cleanliness of the Lubrication Shop and work areas.
  • Utilize good oral and written communication skills and good team building skills.
  • Perform basic mathematical functions (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages) for the purpose of interpreting alarms, calculating lubricant inventory, and calculating relubrication quantity considerations.
  • Operate moderately complex software and web-based programs for lubrication scheduling and oil analysis functions.
  • Routinely work unsupervised effectively.
  • Working in a hot, humid, cold, and noisy industrial environment.
  • Selected candidate must obtain ICML – MLT Level 1 Certification (within 180 days of placement).

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • Experience performing basic mathematical functions (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and percentages) in an industrial environment.
  • Experience utilizing computers and various software programs in an industrial environment.

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Experience reading and interpreting technical documents, such as: OEM Maintenance plans, Blueprints, Advance Lubrication Technology instruction and recommendations and software system instructions.
  • Experience with fundamental lubrication concepts and application of concepts such as: Viscosity, NLGI#’s, V.I., AW, EP, R&O, ISO Cleanliness Codes, Beta Filter Rating etc.)
  • Experience with fundamental principles of mechanical, hydraulic and circulating systems operation, contamination control and maintenance functions.
  • Experience in repairing and maintaining lubrication systems.
  • Experience in mechanical maintenance.
  • Machinery Lubrication Technician Certification (MLT1)
