JOB TITLE: DevOps Engineering Lead

SALARY: The salary banding for this role is £90,440 - £106,400

LOCATION: Leeds

HOURS: 35 hours, full time

WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at one of our office sites.

About this opportunity

Come and join the team! We’re seeking a highly skilled DevOps Engineering Lead with a strong solid IT background. You’ll be defining DevOps strategy in the bounds of LBG. You’ll be an advocate for Engineering, providing a voice to engineers within the teams, identifying and supporting their teams in resolution of impediments and issues as well as continually developing themselves with industry standard process and tooling used across their DevOps team.

This is a leadership level role and will blend both deep domain and technical expertise within a feature team and great passion for coaching and developing people in a “player-coach” model. You’ll also lead and participate in Engineering Guilds and Working Groups to actively promote the DevOps brand in LBG.

What will I be doing?

  • Develops and/or delivers budget plans for own area with guidance from senior colleagues.
  • Takes responsibility for implementing formal development frameworks for a substantial department, while informally coaching and mentoring others throughout the organisation and investing in own personal development.
  • Identifies shortcomings, then suggests and implements improvements to existing business practices, while developing and delivering projects or a workstream within the organisation's change management programme with guidance from senior colleagues.
  • Provides input into the development of IT Security policies, develops underlying procedures and monitors their implementation for area of responsibility within the organisation.
  • Manages the development and/or operation of knowledge management system with guidance from senior colleagues.
  • Develops and/or delivers a plan for a specific area of responsibility by managing others.
  • Analyses and evaluates the feasibility/relevance of proposals for complex products/services, then develops and amends as necessary with guidance from senior colleagues and/or supervises activities performed by a product development/specialist team.
  • Manages a significant portion of the organisation's risk management and/or control process, contributing to the development and implementation of risk management policies and procedures.
  • Develops and/or delivers elements of a strategic planning system with guidance from senior colleagues.

What you’ll need

  • Significant experience in a Lead DevOps Engineer role, with experience in Dev Ops methodologies
  • Line management experience
  • Strong understanding of cloud computing principles and hands on experience with GCP
  • Proficient hands-on experience in architecting and building ephemeral environments utilising public Cloud Platforms (preferably GCP)
  • Proven track record of implementing FinOps strategies aligning with organisational financial goals
  • Proficiency in scripting and programming languages (BASH/Python)
  • Demonstrable experience of event stream platforms such as Kafka
  • Proven experience working with service mesh platforms (Istio)
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies (Kubernetes)
  • Hands-on experience with infrastructure as code (IaC) tools (Terraform)
