JOB SUMMARY

Coordinates and implements District’s safety, health and environmental programs for compliance with local, state and federal regulations. Oversees District programs and issues for student, staff and visitor safety and health.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Performs industrial hygiene work to include but not be limited to preliminary surveys and inspections of occupational environments; conducts studies of potential health hazards of specific substances or sites and prepares reports of findings to include recommendations for the elimination of hazardous conditions. Includes indoor air quality screenings and abatement.
  • Develops and administers programs, policies and procedures for employee safety and health and conducts and arranges training as necessary. Maintains comprehensive activity reports and files for all related training programs, policies and procedures.
  • Administers procedures for and handles District hazardous waste to protect all students, staff and visitors and to comply with all applicable regulations.
  • Evaluates District facilities for safety, health and environmental problems and submits reports, work orders, and recommendations as needed.
  • Oversees fire safety issues to include fire extinguisher inspections and servicing.
  • Buildings and Grounds assessments to assure compliance with Emergency Management Plans to include lockdown, shelter-in-place evacuation, duck and cover, reverse evacuation, school evacuation to safe buildings and safety and health issues.
  • Provide financial data for preparation of yearly Risk Management/Safety budget.
  • Evaluates compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act for accessibility, ingress and egress issues.
  • Provides technical assistance to various schools, departments and personnel regarding safety and health issues related to, but not limited to, building modifications or additions such as playgrounds.
  • Demonstrates the ability to communicate in more than one language or the willingness to learn to communicate in more than one language at the novice level of proficiency.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Maintains regular attendance.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

  • Occupational safety and health standards, EPA regulations, asbestos hazard assessment and abatement methods.
  • Air, noise and heat stress monitoring and calculations in accordance to applicable EPA, OSHA, NIOSH, and AGGIH guidelines using accepted quantitative measurement devices.
  • Must be able to personally visit job sites, to include climbing, manipulation of equipment, visual inspection of conditions and conversation with concerned participants. Must also have the energy and emotional stamina to endure long hours under sometimes stressful conditions.
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing with students, staff and community members.
  • Budget and use time efficiently

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

  • Any combination equivalent to Master’s Degree in industrial hygiene, safety and health, environmental health, engineering, chemistry or related field with four years progressive experience.

Licenses or Certifications:

  • Must possess a valid Kentucky Drivers License or be able to obtain one within ten days of hire.
