Lounge by Zalando is an online shopping club for fashion and lifestyle products across Europe. At the core of our high-growth strategy is pricing and assortment optimization. As a shopping club, Lounge's main premise is to offer exclusive deals with limited availability to fashion conscious customers.

As a Senior Software Engineer on the Pricing Algorithms team, you will contribute and shape the development of the core components of the article lifecycle optimization platform, following engineering best practices with a strong focus on operational excellence and high reliability. Developing a world-class pricing algorithm is a great opportunity to directly contribute to a key pillar of Lounge’s future success: Machine learning, econometrics, and operations research drive our efforts to optimise ca. 5 billion EUR in discount investments each year.

WHAT WE WOULD LOVE YOU TO DO (AND LOVE DOING)

• Develop, support, and optimise distributed data pipelines, ensuring high scalability, data integrity, and system reliability. Experience with machine learning or optimization pipelines is a plus.
• Collaborate with Engineers and Applied Scientists within the team plus Analysts, Product Managers and other stakeholders across Lounge to create positive customer impact together.
• Design, orchestrate, and optimise interactions across multiple software systems to ensure seamless integration and efficient data flow. Focus on enhancing system speed, reliability, and cost-efficiency to maximise the operational impact of our pricing algorithms and infrastructure.
• Contribute to the definition of best practices and set up proper tooling to support them, such as continuous integration/delivery, code/data quality, test coverage, etc.

WE’D LOVE TO MEET YOU IF

• You have strong programming skills in Python and are proficient with modern software engineering practices
• You have hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure, ideally AWS, Databricks and Kubernetes.
• You bring proficiency in state-of-the-art software engineering methodologies and are familiar with continuous delivery, automated testing, and code quality tools. Plus is experience working in ML teams and environments.
• You have solid relational database skills and SQL language. Experience with ETL/ELT tools like dbt, Airflow, data warehouses or data lakes is a big plus
• Bonus points if you have experience with distributed computing frameworks like Spark and data analysis libraries like Pandas/Polars
• You are a product-oriented engineer who goes beyond ticket implementation to actively shape product development. We value team members who proactively identify and solve challenges, whether it's improving internal tooling or leading larger architectural improvements to our systems.
