Compensation Pay Range:
$119,200.00 - $178,800.00
The actual hourly rate will equal or exceed the required minimum wage applicable to the job location. Additional compensation includes annual, quarterly performance, or premiums may be paid in amounts ranging per hour in specific circumstances. Premiums may be based on schedule, facility, season, or specific work performed. Multiple premiums may apply if applicable criteria are met.
We are seeking a highly experienced and strategic Principal System Engineer to lead the design, implementation, and optimization of data center infrastructure. This role plays a key part in ensuring high availability, scalability, and performance of our mission-critical systems across multiple facilities. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise in data center systems architecture, including compute, storage, and networking, with a strong focus on Cisco-based solutions.
The Principal System Engineer will serve as a senior technical leader and subject matter expert, collaborating closely with network engineers, software teams, and data center operations to develop innovative solutions that support business growth and technology transformation.
Key Qualifications:
- 10+ years of experience in systems engineering, with a minimum of 5 years in large-scale data center environments.
- Expert knowledge of data center infrastructure including rack design, cabling, power and cooling, virtualization, and automation.
- Advanced Cisco certifications preferred (e.g., CCNP, CCIE), with strong hands-on experience in Cisco UCS, Nexus, and ACI technologies.
- Proven track record in system integration, performance tuning, disaster recovery planning, and capacity forecasting.
- Experience with hybrid cloud and multi-vendor environments is highly desirable.
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to guide cross-functional teams and influence technology strategy
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Business Requirements Identification: Support collection of business requirements using a variety of methods, such as interviews, document analysis, and workflow analysis, to express requirements clearly and succinctly.
- Technical Developments Recommendation: Discuss and recommend more complex or innovative technical developments to improve the quality of the website/portal/application software and supporting infrastructure to better meet users’ needs.
- Analysis of "As Is" and "To Be": Document "as is" and "to be" processes and describe the changes required to migrate to the "to be" capability to record accurately the change required.
- Leadership and Direction: Communicate the actions needed to implement the function's strategy and business plan within the team; explain the relationship to the broader organization's mission, vision, and values; motivate people to commit to these and to do extraordinary things to achieve local business goals.
- User Support: Provide advice, training, and assistance to users to resolve complex queries and ensure the applications/website capabilities are well understood by the business.
- Performance Management: Develop and propose own performance objectives; take appropriate actions to ensure achievement of agreed objectives, using the organization's performance management systems to improve personal performance. Or manage and report on team performance; set appropriate performance objectives for direct reports or project/account team members and hold people accountable for achieving them, taking appropriate corrective action where necessary to ensure the achievement of team/personal objectives.
- Infrastructure and Network Development and Maintenance: Design and select business-critical storage, data center, and client/server environments to design solutions in line with industry best practice and provide a third-line point of escalation for appropriate global infrastructure solutions.
- Enterprise Infrastructure Modernization: Drive advances in technologies and architectures to increase the value delivered by technology and digital capabilities, either through improvements to the efficiency of the technology environment or through those that reduce the total cost of technology operations. Recommend and participate in activities related to the design, development, and maintenance of the digital capabilities within the enterprise architecture.
- Horizon Scanning: Explore and develop a detailed understanding of external developments or emerging issues and contribute to the evaluation of their potential impact on, or usefulness to, the organization.
- Feasibility Studies: Contribute to and support feasibility studies from a technological and organizational perspective, and document findings.
- Information Security: Implement required security measures, such as firewalls or message encryption, and provide input on their design, monitoring performance to notify security experts of any problems.
- Personal Capability Building: Develop own capabilities by participating in assessment and development planning activities as well as formal and informal training and coaching; gain or maintain external professional accreditation, where relevant, to improve performance and fulfill personal potential. Maintain an in-depth understanding of technology, external regulation, and industry best practices through ongoing education, attending conferences, and reading specialist media.
