To assist the Group Teacher in providing effective classroom operation and support the well-being of the children enrolled at the Child Development Center. The Assistant Teacher is responsible for supervision and safety of children in their care.

POSITION SUMMARY

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Supervise children by sight and sound at all times.
  • Assist Group Teacher in instructional and classroom management activities including curriculum planning and custodial care of the classrooms.
  • Supports group teacher by preparing materials and activities.
  • Executes lesson plans in the event of group teacher’s absence.
  • Guides children in learning appropriate behavior and social skills.
  • Communicate with families and / or administration about student progress.
  • Maintains confidentiality is regard to all students.
  • Maintains a clean and healthy classroom environment.
  • Ensure wellbeing and safety of children.
  • Helps with diapering / toileting and other hygienic needs of students.
  • Attends staff meetings.
  • Must be a team player.
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned.
  • Attends staff development and completes professional development hours in areas mandated by the Dept. of Children and Families Manual of Standards.

SPECIAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Minimum of an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field preferred.

Experience: Minimum of 4 months experience required. Student Fieldwork accepted.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Demonstrates understanding of the community college mission, collaborates effectively with peers and other stakeholders, has the ability to effectively communicate and influence internal and external stakeholders, and has basic proficiency in the use of the Microsoft Office suite. Exhibits strong skills in:

  • Childcare

  • Teaching

SALARY AND BENEFITS

  • Annual Salary: $40,000
  • NJ Educators Health Plan with free Vision and Dental. NJ State Pension plan.
  • 13 vacation days, 15 sick days, 4 personal days, 2 floating holidays, all designated holidays and 5 non-designated holidays a year. 3 Partial Sick Days.
