Job Description
The Career Services Coordinator of Employer Relations and Internships works closely with the Director to identify and manage all aspects of the employer relations and development. This person is responsible for developing and maintaining strategic partnerships with employers to enhance recruitment and hiring opportunities for Prairie View A&M University students and alumni. The position involves collaborating with employers, staff, and faculty to build relationships that promotes student readiness for achieving and succeeding in internships, co-ops, and full-time employment opportunities. The Career Services Coordinator also plays a leadership role in career services initiatives and contributes to the overall mission of student career development.
This position may pay more than the salary listed above depending on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate.
Responsibilities:
Employer Relations
- Maintain employer database and reporting structure.
- Collaborate with employers to understand their recruitment needs and create customized engagement strategies.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for employer inquiries regarding internships, jobs, and recruitment.
- Organize employer engagement registrations, logistics, and communications for events such as career fairs, Job Offer Signing Day, informational sessions, networking, and on-campus interviews/hiring events.
- Serves as the liaison between the Career Services Department and employers to ensure expectations are realistic, attainable, and timely achieved.
- Conduct regular assessments of employer involvement and recommend improvements.
- Manage corporate giving to ensure delivery of key performance indicators (KPIs).
Business/Employer Development
- Cultivate new employer partnerships and increase internship and job opportunities targeting non-demand majors.
- Conduct market research to identify emerging trends, new industries, and potential partnerships to increase internship and employment opportunities for majors/programs challenged by the hidden job market.
Data Management & Reporting
- Assist with tracking internship placements and job outcomes for students and report key performance metrics.
- Analyze employment trends and make data-driven recommendations to improve employer engagement strategies.
- Oversees the Employer Customer Relations Management System (Handshake) and Reporting.
- Manage job postings, employer profiles, event promotion, and analytics for platforms such as Handshake, Jobscan, Jungle Guides, etc.
- Assists with tracking types of opportunities, students’ engagement, employer feedback, and employer relations outcomes.
- Track and report employer engagement metrics and event participation statistics to inform strategy and demonstrate impact.
Leadership & Collaboration
- Supervise student interns and volunteers, as necessary.
- Represent the department at internal and external events, conferences, and employer meetings.
- Collaborate with academic departments, faculty, Career Coaches, and Internship Coordinator to expand focus to prepare students for emerging skill demands and minimize the gap professional development.
- May engage student organizations in hosting events.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, business, workforce development, counseling or a related field.
- Three years of related experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.
- Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent decision-making skills.
- Ability to work independently once given a project.
- Ability to manage multiple, ongoing programs and services.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree.
- 5+ years of experience in employer relations, workforce development, career services, human resources, or a related field.
- Proven track record of developing successful employment opportunities.
- Experience collecting data and writing technical reports.
- Experience working with college students or young professionals is a plus.
- At least two years of program development experience is a plus.
Other Requirements:
- This position may require occasional evening or weekend work to support events or employer engagements.
- Some local, national, or regional travel may be required for employer visits and conferences.
