Position Overview: TEA’s Performance Reporting division seeks to ensure continuous improvement in the academic achievement of all Texas public school students by developing and implementing transparent, rigorous, and fair academic accountability systems; providing accurate and comprehensive academic performance reporting systems, tools, and trackers; and monitoring and validating data to ensure the integrity of these systems.
The SAS Programmer/Data Analyst will work in the Data Infrastructure team in the Division of Performance Reporting. The Programmer will perform complex programming tasks to create datasets, reporting, and other utility programs that provide actionable insights into student performance across the state. They will assist in the creation and maintenance of applications that support the processing of accountability and other data and will be responsible for configuring data download systems to provide timely and accurate data to districts and the general public. This position will work under minimal supervision.

Essential Functions

1. Data Processing and Reporting: Serve as the primary programmer for various data processing and reporting deliverables that provide actionable insights about student performance to educational leaders. To effectively fulfill this function, the candidate is expected to: (a) perform SAS program design, programming, testing, quality control, and debugging; (b) complete code revisions, changes, and additions according to program specifications; and (c) follow programming best practices and adhere to the divisional programming standards.
2. Data Downloads: Serve as the primary programmer responsible for updating and maintaining various data download systems owned by the Performance Reporting division. To effectively fulfill this function, the candidate is expected to: (a) perform SAS program design, programming, testing, quality control, and debugging; (b) complete code revisions, changes, and additions according to program specifications; and (c) follow programming best practices and adhere to the divisional programming standards.
3. Application Development: Assist with the development of new applications and support the ongoing enhancement and maintenance of existing applications in the secure Texas Education Agency Login (TEAL) system. The candidate is expected to create and maintain applications using SAS/IntrNet and/or related technologies, as well as support data integration, consistency, and standards within these applications.
4. Ad Hoc Analysis and Reporting: Supports division outcomes by completing ad-hoc research, performing data analyses and modeling, and fulfilling Public Information Requests (PIRs). To effectively fulfill this function, the candidate is expected to: (a) perform SAS program design, programming, testing, quality control, and debugging; (b) complete code revisions, changes, and additions according to program specifications; and (c) follow programming best practices and adhere to the divisional programming standards.
