Job Summary:
- As a valued member of the Marine Component Technician team, you will be involved in hands-on service and maintenance of a wide range of marine engines, including outboard, inboard, and sterndrive systems.
- Your day-to-day tasks will include diagnostics, troubleshooting, and conducting performance assessments. You'll also be responsible for the installation of advanced onboard systems like navigation and communication equipment.
- A strong focus on safety and compliance is essential to ensure that all repairs and installations adhere to current regulations.
- Accurate documentation of all work completed, including maintenance logs and parts used, is a key aspect of the position

Primary Responsibilities:
- The Marine Component Technician’s core duties include conducting detailed inspections and preventive maintenance on engines, electronics, and safety systems.
- You'll identify and resolve technical issues using diagnostic tools and data interpretation.
- You will also be responsible for ensuring environmental compliance, such as proper waste disposal and emissions control.
- In addition to technical work, the role includes conducting safety drills, participating in emergency response efforts, and maintaining the vessel's operational integrity.
- Recordkeeping for all inspections and repairs is critical to maintain regulatory compliance and vessel history.

Required Qualifications:
- Perform basic marine engine service across multiple brands, such as 100 hour and 300 hour recommended service.
- Responsible for mechanical boat inspection and an understanding of small boat mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
- Marine electrical system inspection, diagnostics, and troubleshooting.
- Repair or renew marine electrical wiring and components.
- Identify missing or damaged components for replacement, using the proper parts catalogues (EPCs) to look up part numbers.
- Record all components (part numbers) missing or in need of replacement and provide and report it to the supervisor for order entry.
- Properly document any findings during trouble shooting of engines including identified parts, part numbers and work needing to be done to complete the repair.
- Work following specific job instructions, frequently reading and providing verbal and/or written status of part completion.
- Handle and apply solvents, hydraulic fluids, oils, lubes, greases, paints, and fuel along with proper disposal.
- Recognize and protect precious boat components while performing mechanical duties.
- Conduct sea trial of boats for inspection and diagnostic purposes
- Tow boats to/from boat ramp for sea trial purposes
- Experience in performing full service on marine outboard engines as well as inboard / outboard engines without supervision
- Knowledge using the diagnostic computer and software for each engine manufacturer (Mercury G3, Candoo, Diacom, Etc.)
- Knowledge of marine 12-volt systems, with an emphasis on efficient troubleshooting / diagnoses
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements could include face respirators, gloves
- Operating hand tools may include standard mechanic tools, drill, or other specialty tools and fixtures
- Ability to work in a non-climate-controlled environment
- Must be able to work efficiently and effectively to achieve daily goals
- Ability to work in a fast paced, noisy environment
- Must always follow all safety and quality standards, including chemical handling standards and PPE (personal protective equipment)
- Ability to comprehend and adhere to both verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to collaborate closely with colleagues in a team environment, demonstrating mutual respect and professionalism
Preferred Qualifications:
- Mercury, Mercruiser, PCM, Volvo Penta Yamaha/Honda/Suzuki experience
- Willingness to pursue Mercury Certification
- Depending on the region, certain positions may require specific licenses, such as a captain's license or a marine engineering license.
- Familiarity with the latest marine technologies, including navigation systems, satellite communications, and hybrid/electric propulsion systems.
- Experience in project management or supervisory roles can be preferred for positions involving team leadership or coordination of repair projects.
- In-depth understanding of maritime regulations and environmental laws related to marine operations.

- Marine Technicians work in various settings, including shipyards, marine repair shops, and onboard vessels. They need strong mechanical and electrical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work in challenging environments, often under tight deadlines.
- Specific observation abilities required by the job include close range, detecting from a distance, color identification, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Constantly works in non-A/C work area; the noise level can periodically be higher than normal; hearing protection may be required.
- Exposures encountered, such as hazardous materials, loud noise, or extreme heat/cold. Including the ability to work in a non-climate-controlled environment.
- Needed physical requirements, such constantly positioning oneself for 10+ hours at a time.
- The job involves significant physical activity, including transporting heavy materials, using power tools, and performing tasks in awkward or confined spaces.
- Using personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, safety goggles, respirators, and coveralls to protect against chemicals, dust, and debris at any time.
- Work on boats and marine structures can involve working at heights or on elevated platforms. This would require ascending and descending while applying safety precautions.
- Physical effort/moving, such as sedentary - up to 10 pounds; light - up to 20 pounds; medium - up to 50 pounds; heavy - over 50 pounds.
The anticipated pay for this position is $20.00, hourly. The actual base pay offered will vary depending on multiple factors including job-related knowledge/skills, relevant experience, business needs, and geographic location.
