Accountabilities / Responsibilities
- Supports the facility’s ideology, mission, goals, and objectives.
- Performs in accordance with the facility’s policies and procedures.
- Recognizes patient’s rights and responsibilities and supports them in performance of job duties.
- Participates in facility committees, meetings, in-services, and activities.
- Uses facility resources appropriately and avoids wasteful practices.
- Identifies potentially unsafe situations and notifies supervisor.
- Follows CDC isolation guidelines, appropriately uses PPE, and performs handwashing according to policy.
- Performs the role of Ophthalmic Technician by anticipating the needs of the patient and keeping the OR team informed of any needs throughout a procedure.
- Ensures all supplies, equipment and medications are assembled prior to the start of each procedure.
- Works with the infection prevention nurse/practitioner regarding practices for maintaining a clean and safe environment.
- Maintains inventory levels and accurate records.
- Checks for outdated items and package integrity of medical supplies; replaces items as necessary.
- Properly disposes of biohazardous substances, chemicals, medical waste and unusable equipment and supplies
- In coordination with the PreOp Charge RN, Maintains adequate inventory of supplies for the PreOp area.
- Maintains/updates the equipment and supply inventory list.
- Maintains a clean and orderly PreOp area – shelves, counters, equipment, etc.
- Collaborates with ASC team members to update and maintain surgeon preference cards.
- Understands the high standards and cost savings and containment of the ASC.
- Communicates effectively and professionally with patients, visitors, physicians and coworkers.
- Interacts with others in a positive, respectful, and considerate manner.
- Answers the phone as needed throughout the center.
Qualifications
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
- High School Graduate or equivalent
- Successful completion of BLS Course within 90 days of employment or documentation of current BLS certification. Employer provides course.
- Ophthalmology Technician or Surgical Technologist experience required
- Certification in Ophthalmology preferred

- Demonstrates ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Basic computer skills to include keyboarding, mouse movement and data entry skills to enter information into practice management and HER.
- Able to effectively organize and prioritize tasks to complete assignments within the time allotted and maintain standard workflow.
- Ability to work with others in a flexible and cooperative manner.
- Ability to maintain composure during challenging interpersonal interactions.
- Verbal/written communication and active listening skills; including excelled interpersonal skills.
