Job Title: Controls Technician I

Job Description

This role primarily involves assembling control panels, assisting with wiring panels, and supporting the on-site installation of panels. You may also aid in the repair of electrical components as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble routine and basic control panels under supervision.
  • Read and interpret simple electrical layout drawings and diagrams.
  • Lay out enclosures, back panels, and components per drawings, ensuring proper placement.
  • Assemble and mount components to enclosure and back panels upon approval.
  • Print wire labels and engrave panel tags.
  • Assist with installing and wiring controls per detailed electrical instructions, drawings, and schematics.
  • Perform continuity and simple function tests of control panels to verify wiring.
  • Prepare finished assemblies for shipment including wrapping, packaging, and strapping to skids.
  • Assist with tests and repairs of drives, contactors, circuit breakers, encoders, and tach generators, and record results.
  • Observe all safety procedures and use proper safety equipment including eye, ear, and hand protection.
  • Maintain a clean, neat, and safe work environment at all times.
  • Operate and maintain equipment safely.
  • Promote a strong company image and maintain positive working relationships.
  • Provide outstanding customer service.
  • Perform work according to established company policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as requested.

Essential Skills

  • Experience with control panels and/or electrical experience (2+ years).
  • Basic understanding of electrical characteristics of materials and their applications.
  • Basic understanding of electrical symbols and components, including their uses and applications.
  • Familiarity with electrical test equipment including DMMs and Meggar.
  • Basic computer knowledge including Microsoft Office software.
  • Ability to perform basic math functions including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and fractions.
  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend basic to moderately complex written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to understand, perform, and retain various job-related training, operational, and safety procedures.
  • Ability to exercise initiative, judgment, and decision-making related to standard/routine duties within set company standards.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in Electronics with two or more years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of AC/DC motor control technology highly preferred.
  • Ability to operate overhead cranes, hoists, forklifts, and other equipment.
  • Ability to operate hydraulic shear, chop saw, band saw, drill press, etc.

Work Environment

This role is based in a very large job shop facility with over ten different shops at the main location. The environment is semi-climate controlled, with conditions varying from hot in the summer to cool in the winter. The position requires working 1st shift, Monday through Friday, from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM. Attire includes shop-appropriate clothing, steel toe boots, work pants, and high-visibility shirts provided by Aerotek. Other personal protective equipment, such as earplugs, safety glasses, gloves, and respirators, is provided by the company.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $29.00/hr.
