Are you passionate about Quality Engineering and have a soft spot for pets? We're looking for a dynamic individual to join our team and support our business-critical NW Pet applications, which help pet partners and owners with sales and self-service.

What You'll Do:

• Lead Quality for Critical Applications: Oversee business-critical NW Pet applications supporting pet owners' self-service.

• Test Automation Strategy: Create robust test automation using Tosca, Ruby/Cucumber, and Java/Selenium.
• Comprehensive Testing: Perform automation, performance, API, ADA, security, and database testing.

• Enhance QE Practices: Improve our Quality Engineering practices and processes.
• Coach QEs: Guide and mentor other Quality Engineers in automation techniques.

Additional Responsibilities:

• Strategic Planning: Report to the Director of Software Engineering and support strategic planning.
• Test Strategy: Provide the overall test strategy for all projects within the program scope.
• Testing Approaches: Adapt testing methodologies for frequent product releases.
• Agile Teams: Assist test activities across multiple agile development teams.
• Automation Framework: Develop a framework to manage automated code as an application asset.
• Test Activities: Ensure functional, system integration, and end-to-end coverage on various platforms.
• Leadership Interface: Provide test and defect metrics to program leadership and monthly Pet Operation meetings.
• Risk-Based Testing: Utilize a risk-based test approach for adequate coverage.
• Mentorship: Guide and mentor, a team of 10+ Quality Engineers.

Top Technical Skills:

Tosca: Hands-on experience and AS1 and AS2 certification.

Test Automation Creation: Using Tosca, Ruby/Cucumber, and Java/Selenium.

Comprehensive Testing: Execute automation, performance, API, security, ADA, and database testing.

End-to-End Testing: Manage end-to-end testing and provide test status reports.

Test Driven Development: Implement TDD practices for high-quality code.

As a Quality Engineer you will plan and conduct a wide range of software quality tests and analyzes to ensure all application products and services meet organizational standards aligned to their quality management approach, as well as, end-user requirements. Quality Engineers perform our quality planning, quality design and execution.

You will focus on a blend of skills enabling efficient execution of risk-based testing, test automation, performance testing, test data management, test environment management, continuous integration and continuous deployment all improving speed to delivery for our business partners.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversees procedures to ensure all information systems products and services meet organization standards and end-user requirements.
• Serves as an expert in the analysis and reviews requirements, user stories and technical work products to create the automation needed.
• Responsible for applying secure software and systems engineering practices throughout the delivery lifecycle to ensure our data and technology solutions are protected from threats and vulnerabilities.
• Defines and manages multiple test plans, strategies, results reporting and metrics.
• Uses the appropriate quality engineering tools to define test data management, test automation, security/vulnerability, performance, and regression testing needs.
• Manages moderate to complex defects including identifying, tracking, and providing critical thinking for resolution.
• Considers and drives the end users’ experience during the software development life cycle.
• Is proactive in managing leading indicators of quality in test plans and approaches while ensuring speed and efficiency.
• Partners with Infrastructure & Operations and Architecture on test data and environment management plans.
• Sets the release test strategy (including all release life cycle testing phases).
• Oversees the coordination of all release testing efforts (including all phases of testing during the release life cycle).
• Aligns with the Nationwide automated testing reference architecture.
• Complies with release management process governance and timelines throughout the release.
• Acts as a source of direction for associates.

May perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Reporting Relationships: Reports to Technology Manager or Director.

Typical Skills and Experiences:

Education: Undergraduate studies in computer science, management information systems, or a related field is preferred.

License/Certification/Designation: Technology certifications including TOSCA Automated Specialist 1 (AS1), TOSCA Automated Specialist 2 (AS2), or other related designations are preferred.

Experience: Six to eight years of experience with using test optimization and automation processed and tools. Demonstrated experience in testing for agile teams including planning, test plan creation, maintenance and execution. Good understanding of test automation and optimization throughout a stack and the tools to support.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Strong analytical and communication skills, knowledge of planning. Ability to work on multiple projects, problem solve and set priorities needed. Insurance/financial services industry knowledge a plus.

Other criteria, including leadership or technical skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.

Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager’s leader and HR Business Partner.
