The Position:

Assistant Coach, Strength and Conditioning/Football Equipment Manager (Part-time)

Job Summary:

Muhlenberg College, a Division III institution and a member of the Centennial Conference is seeking applications for a part-time Strength & Conditioning Coach/Football Equipment Manager. Responsibilities include assisting the director of strength and conditioning in all phases of the strength and conditioning program, as well as serving as the football equipment manager. The assistant coach/equipment manager will operate within the college, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations; including developing and implementing programs for student athletes, and coordinating strategies to support 23 intercollegiate teams.

This part-time position includes College-provided housing with a private bedroom in a shared athletics house plus a meal-stipend of $800.00 per semester of “Berg Bucks” dining credit, for use at on-campus dining facilities while the College is in session. This part-time position is budgeted for 760 hours per year.

Characteristic Duties & Responsibilities:

Coaching

  • Design and implement specific strength & conditioning programs for assigned teams.
  • Supervise both individual and team workouts.
  • Conduct record keeping of team and individual records.
  • Implement and instruct Olympic weightlifting techniques.
  • Assist in maintaining all machines and free weight equipment in the weight room.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Football Equipment

  • Responsible for serving as the lead equipment coordinator for football.
  • Be available in the equipment room prior to football’s daily practices and address equipment replacement and repairs.
  • Serve as a resource to other teams and student athletes during your time in the equipment room.
  • Attend all home and away football games.
  • Ability to travel and work weekends as directed.

General Athletic/Team Operations

  • Under the general direction of the director, provide leadership and support to all facets of the program in advancing the mission of the College and Athletics department.
  • Attend meetings and training as required by the director, Athletics department, and College.
  • Establish and meet annual goals reviewed and approved by the director.
  • Support all 23 teams by serving as a valuable recruitment resource. With approval, participate in on-campus recruiting, including individual and team campus visits on a year-round basis.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

While no one person may possess all the qualifications listed below, the ideal candidate will have many of the following professional experiences and characteristics:

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Related professional experience, or a combination of professional and athletic experience leading to a similar qualification required.
  • Ability to motivate, counsel, and support student-athletes.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated understanding of, and commitment to, the Division III philosophy of athletics and adherence to NCAA regulations regarding operation of athletic programs.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and engage with a varied audience, including but not limited to students, parents, College employees, alumni, and community relations.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering an inclusive academic and professional environment where all members of our campus community are respected, valued, can succeed, and thrive.
  • Ability to travel and adapt to varying schedules, including evening and weekend hours, in accordance with the needs of the team.
  • Successful completion of satisfactory background checks including but not limited to education verification, criminal background checks, child abuse clearance, and driving record.
