The Attorney General’s Office is looking for a highly motivated individual of integrity and commitment to public service to serve as a Criminal Investigator to support the work of the Insurance & Unemployment Fraud Division located within the Criminal Bureau. The Insurance & Unemployment Fraud Division investigates and prosecutes complex insurance and unemployment fraud cases, including violations of M.G.L. c. 152, M.G.L. c. 151A, and M.G.L. c. 175H, and other illegal activity, such as larceny, conspiracy, and money laundering.
The Division is staffed by a group of experienced prosecutors and financial investigators who partner with Massachusetts State Police troopers assigned to the Attorney General’s Office, and local, state, and federal investigative and enforcement agencies.
Primary Duties:
Conduct complex investigations of all types of insurance fraud, including fraud involving healthcare, automobile claims, workers’ compensation, and benefit payments. Investigations typically involve and require proficiency in conducting audits of financial records and tracing the source of financial assets and expenditures. The duties and responsibilities for this position also include, but are not limited to, the following:
The Criminal Investigator will work closely with prosecutors, victim witness advocates, other investigators, and paralegal and administrative support personnel within the Criminal Bureau, as well as with federal, state, and law enforcement partners, along with other government agencies, such as the Insurance Fraud Bureau and the Department of Unemployment Assistance.
Position Type: Full-Time/Non-Exempt. Our current hybrid model includes some remote workdays for most positions.
Location: The Criminal Investigator hired for this position will work out of the AGO’s Boston Office. Our hybrid model may include some telework days for the successful applicant. For the first six months of the position, the Criminal Investigator will be expected to work in the office at least three or four days per week.
Salary: $66,736 - $73,997, commensurate with experience

Position Requirements:
The successful applicant will be a highly motivated worker who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment on a range of complex matters, often under time pressure. A bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of related education and/or experience is required. Three or more years of investigative work experience is preferred. Certified Fraud Examiner certification a plus. Familiarity with financial documents and proven ability to analyze and audit the financial condition of subjects being investigated preferred.
The successful candidate will be self-motivated and possess the ability to exercise sound judgment in decision-making. Excellent investigative research skills, organizational and analytic skills, attention to detail, proficient verbal and written communication skills, and a high level of professionalism are necessary. Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel, and PowerPoint are required. A candidate with a working knowledge of Massachusetts criminal law and procedure is preferred. Applicants with a high level of proficiency with technology and computers (word processing, spreadsheets, and databases) are also preferred.
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a connection to the people and communities we serve, and an interest in supporting a respectful and inclusive work environment. Although this position is centrally based in Boston, the successful candidate will be required to travel, as needed, to other areas of the Commonwealth in support of investigations and litigation. Accordingly, a valid Massachusetts driver’s license is required.
