Position Description

The Admissions Counselor will join a dynamic and diverse undergraduate admissions team that represents Seattle University’s Jesuit academic and co-curricular opportunities to prospective students, their families and supporters, and the high school college counselor community. This position works primarily with high school students applying to college directly from high school. However, the counseling team supports all prospective students (First-Year, Transfer, Arts, Pre-College, and Post-Baccalaureate) by providing advising and support through email and phone communication, appointments, events on and off campus and other outreach programs as needed.

Recruitment Management (45%)

  • Provide information about the University’s academic opportunities to prospective students, families, counselors, advisors, and other stakeholders. Information shared as presentations, emails, calls, one on one conversation, and more.
  • Plan, develop, and implement on and off-campus recruitment travel and activities.
  • Meet with prospective students through various channels (high school visits, campus interviews, information sessions, presentations, workshops).
  • Collaborate with campus stakeholders to meet undergraduate enrollment goals.
  • Engage in efforts to make higher education more accessible, equitable, and inclusive; participate in working groups to embed these efforts in job responsibilities.

Application Review and Recommendations (25%)

  • Review, evaluate, and provide initial undergraduate admission recommendations based on university criteria and artistic standards.

Event Attendance (15%)

  • Support and actively participate in programs and events to engage prospective First-Year, Transfer, Post-Baccalaureate and Pre-College students, their families, community organizations, college counselors, and advisors.
  • Attend major admission events (preview days, admitted student days, etc.).
  • Evening and weekend work required, especially in fall and spring.

Other Duties (15%)

  • Manage and work on assigned project areas throughout the year.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in a relevant field.
  • Minimum of 1 year Undergraduate Admissions experience Or a combination of education and experience to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of the job.
  • Must possess well-developed organizational skills.
  • Confidence in public speaking to both large and small groups.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
  • A commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, and supporting diverse student populations.
  • Knowledge of college admission trends and issues in higher education.
  • Ability and willingness to travel and work evenings and weekends as necessary.
  • Must be able to drive. Valid driver's license required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Speaks, writes, and reads one of the following languages: Spanish, Vietnamese, Somali, Mandarin, Tagalog, Amharic, or Tigrinya.
  • Interested in utilizing language skills to serve prospective students and families in the college search process.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products and federal and state privacy laws.
  • Experience using an ERP and CRM, specifically Ellucian Colleague system, Technolutions Slate CRM.
  • Knowledge of financial aid trends and issues.
  • Experience working with diverse young adult and youth populations.
  • Experience with creative marketing, media production, and social media management focused on or targeted to young adults.

Compensation at a Glance

Salary Range: $52,000 - $54,000

Seattle University has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, and not based on a candidate’s gender or any other protected status.

Hybrid Eligible

This position may be eligible for a hybrid schedule after successful completion of an introductory work period of 3-6 months. This may mean that a hybrid eligible role will begin on-campus initially and then will transition to hybrid format following onboarding and training. Flexible work plans are subject to periodic review and may be changed or terminated at any time for any reason at the university’s discretion.
