Councilor, Buchanan & Mitchell, P.C. (CBM), an accounting and business advisory firm that serves clients throughout Washington, DC and the Mid-Atlantic region, is currently seeking an experienced Director of Finance to lead and oversee all financial operations within the firm. The Director of Finance is a key member of management and directs CBM's financial and accounting needs as well as its relationship with bankers, vendors, insurers and other providers. The Director of Finance is responsible for ensuring the firm's financial health, supporting its growth objectives and safeguarding the assets of the organization.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare and present monthly financial statements and analysis to the Partner group; report directly to the President of CBM.
- Deliver accurate, timely budget and financial reports to support informed decision-making by the Partners and Practice Directors.
- Oversee and manage the entire client billing and collections process to ensure accuracy, timeliness and compliance with contract terms.
- Effectively manage banking and deposit relationships, implement timely accounts receivable strategies, and develop initiatives to strengthen the firm's overall cash position.
- Supervise and lead the accounting team, including staff development and performance management.
- Coordinate, develop, manage and assess the organization's financial procedures and overall fiscal performance.
- Track financial performance by analyzing results and identifying financial resources.
- Lead both short-term operations planning and long-term financial strategy development.
- Identify opportunities for cost savings, process efficiencies, and system upgrades.
- Review, negotiate, and execute contracts as needed.
- Recommend updates or changes to the firm's financial policies and procedures.
- Ensure full compliance with legal and business requirements, including licenses, tax filings, insurance and vendor agreements.
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or Master's degree is preferred.
- 8+ years in progressive financial management experience (including at least 5 years in leadership roles) preferably in a CPA firm, law firm or similar professional services firm.
- Experience with general ledger accounting software (QuickBooks Online); Time and billing (CCH suite), Accounts Payable (Bill) are desired.
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and CRM applications.
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, ability to communicate and manage well at all levels of the firm.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analysis.
- High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results oriented.
