POSITION TITLE: Assistant Zoological Park Maintainer, Security
REPORTS TO: Manager, Assistant Manager, Supervisor of Security and Admissions
DIRECT REPORTS: None
POSITION OBJECTIVE: Maintain safe and secure environment for guests and employees by patrolling and monitoring premises and personnel.
Principal Responsibilities
1. Secure grounds and staff by patrolling zoo; inspecting buildings, equipment as required, and access points; monitor service gate entry, assist with oversize vehicle access to the parking lot. Utilize Detex monitoring system in patrol cycles.
2. Prevent losses and damage by reporting irregularities; enforce zoo policy and procedures; restrain trespassers.
3. Control park traffic by directing drivers at service gate.
4. Complete reports by recording observations, information, occurrences, and surveillance activities.
5. Enforce the Society's visitors' rules and regulations and those of the Department of Parks of the City of New York.
6. May perform ground maintenance work as required such as shoveling snow from gates and other access points.
7. Attend court appearances as required related to participation in any job-related police action
8. Represent WCS in a professional manner, establish and maintain positive, effective working relationships with employees, colleagues, City and other government agencies, outside contractors, and the general public.
9. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
10. Perform related duties and tasks as required.
Qualification Requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
1. High School diploma or equivalent
2. NYS Security Guard License
3. Valid Driver's License (preferred)
4. Ability and willingness to work weekends, holidays, evenings and special events as the schedule
demands.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
1. The position requires outdoor work in all weather conditions. Tasks require manual dexterity and
ability to safely use tools (e.g. shovel). Some tasks require climbing, kneeling, bending, navigating
uneven terrain.
