Job Description

The role of a Buyer requires a leader that can drive change in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment leveraging his/her strong interpersonal and negotiation skills. The ideal candidate will coordinate with the Materials Manager to lead and support all supply chain activities for the Industrial Equipment Division. The individual will be responsible for all supply chain activities in the IE group to include continual involvement with our suppliers and manufacturing teams, as well as properly collaborating with and executing ITW Strategic Sourcing Initiatives. The ideal candidate will also possess the willingness, desire and capability to move into higher level functional leadership roles or general management roles.

Essential Functions:

Key responsibilities include:

  • All activities related to procurement, storage and shipment of materials.
  • Supplier visits and performance audits.
  • Developing collaborative versus transactional relationships with key vendors.
  • Collaborate with our Inventory Specialists and Material Handlers and seek out areas for simplification.
  • Supplier evaluation and selection in coordination with the Materials Manager and Engineering team.
  • Develop and manage our supplier base (reduction, new product sourcing and selection, and identify ways for our supplier base to add more value).
  • Documentation of cost savings and avoidances.
  • Manage the supplier Corrective Action Request process.
  • Daily interaction with manufacturing, quality and engineering staff.
  • Lead and assist in divisional toolbox/process improvement and USa projects.
  • Understand and calculate TCO (total cost of ownership) principles.
  • Understand demand forecasting and participate in Sales and Operations Planning discussions (S&OP)
  • Communicate MRD (market rate of demand) adjustments to suppliers based upon expected material requirements.
  • Evaluate and manage factory reorder points to minimize disruption in production.
  • Manage inventory turns (MOH) as well as the non-active inventory classification.
  • Responsible for cycle counts and perpetual inventory management.
  • Responsible for managing materials when transitioning from an existing product to new product.
  • Adherence to and implementation of ITW and business unit principles (Product Line Simplification, 80/20, Market Rate of Demand, empower, trust).

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have a supply chain background who combines tactical and strategic thinking to manage and support all material operations within the Industrial Equipment Division.

The candidate must possess the following:

  • Bachelor’s Degree related to Operations/Supply Chain, Business Management, or equivalent.
  • Willingness, desire and capability to move into higher level functional leadership roles or general management roles.
  • 5+ years’ experience in Supply Chain/Operations management.
  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and time management skills.
  • Process engineering change orders and new product development projects.
  • Ability to drive, negotiate, and manage cost savings projects.
  • Set-up new suppliers, purchase agreements and provide training on core principles.
  • Familiarity with global sourcing and currency exchange fluctuations.
  • Supplier Relationship Management experience:
  • Maintain Strategic Supplier relationships
  • Develop, manage and enforce supply agreements/contracts
  • Address price increase requests
  • Execute supplier business reviews
  • Demonstrated excellence in communication and negotiation.
  • Excellent computer skills (Microsoft office package).
