Ocean Import Specialist

M-F 8am-6pm
$16-$18/hour depending on experience
Job Overview: As an Ocean Import Specialist, you will play a crucial role in managing and overseeing the importation process of goods transported by ocean freight. You will work closely with various stakeholders, including suppliers, carriers, customs authorities, and internal teams, to ensure the timely and cost-effective delivery of products.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and review all necessary shipping and customs documentation, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulations.
- Coordinate with suppliers and shipping lines to obtain and verify required import documentation.
- Stay updated on customs regulations and ensure all import activities adhere to legal requirements.
- Collaborate with customs brokers to facilitate the smooth clearance of goods through customs.
- Monitor and track the movement of ocean shipments from origin to destination.
- Coordinate with carriers, freight forwarders, and other stakeholders to address any issues and ensure on-time delivery.
- Maintain regular communication with suppliers, carriers, and internal teams to provide updates on shipment status and address any challenges.
- Collaborate with other departments, such as logistics, procurement, and customer service, to ensure seamless operations.
- Identify and resolve any issues related to shipment delays, damages, or discrepancies.
- Act as a point of contact for problem-solving and troubleshooting throughout the import process.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in a related field (Logistics, Supply Chain Management, International Business, etc.) is a plus.
- Proven experience in ocean import operations or related field.
- Strong understanding of international trade regulations and customs procedures.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in documentation.
- Proficiency in using relevant software and tools for tracking and managing shipments.
