At Netflix, the Production Solutions team is essential to providing our members with a great experience every time they play our content by ensuring the content delivered to the service is of the highest quality. As we continue to expand globally, our role is to maintain and elevate the high-quality standards for our customers by focusing on leveraging technologies and best practices that empower creative vision and maximize productivity across the production and delivery lifecycle.
We are a team of experts in the applied science of filmmaking—technically and creatively equipped to bridge artistic intent and technical feasibility. We stay hands-on with actual productions to drive meaningful, long-term impact.
You are an expert in the field of scripted content creation. You understand the evolving landscape of production and post-production technologies, from on-set capture and media and metadata management through editorial, VFX, and finishing. You have worked with filmmakers, directors, show-runners, editors, producers, cinematographers, colorists, DITs, post-production teams, technology vendors, and network or studio executives and understand the goals and the challenges they face. You stay informed about emerging technologies that shape content creation. You are comfortable evaluating and testing new production technologies and pipelines to gauge their potential impact for Netflix and the industry at large. You can easily explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences and bridge the gap between creative intent and technical execution.
The ideal candidate will have a passion for technical, operational, and creative problem-solving, deep knowledge of production and post-production workflows, and a strong strategic mindset. Additionally, a love of teaching and having empathy for those you interact with who are unfamiliar with the technology will serve you well in this role.
As the Manager, Scripted Technology, you will:
- Provide technical enablement to Netflix Original productions by engaging directly with shows, consulting on challenges, and determining the scale and trajectory of ongoing support. Stay grounded in real-world productions by testing ideas with filmmakers, ensuring hypotheses are proven before scaling, and focusing on systemic issues worth addressing.
- Educate internal and external teams on Netflix’s technical filmmaking expectations, production best practices, evolving industry standards, and why they exist. Setting up our stakeholders for future success.
- Build and sustain trust and respect by fostering meaningful relationships with producers, filmmakers, and internal/external stakeholders to pilot and scale innovative ideas effectively. Ensuring that productions see Netflix as a thought partner rather than an authority enforcing rules.
- Explore, analyze, document, and communicate global production practices, technology adoptions, challenges, and opportunities to inform strategy and innovation.
- Embrace adaptability in evolving technology by identifying innovation triggers, acquiring context, building hypotheses, testing ideas, and scaling successful concepts. Remain flexible in approach while acting on proof of concepts, learning from results, and integrating opportunities at scale.
- Balance art, science, and business by acting on opportunities at the intersection of what you love, what you’re good at, what Netflix needs, and what the industry needs.
- Represent Netflix at industry events, conferences, and working groups, advocating for innovations that benefit Netflix and the broader creative community.
- Support & enable insight-driven guidance by demystifying Netflix requirements, proactively identifying risks before they escalate, and leveraging discussions to surface and refine innovative ideas.
- Understand and communicate around practical ML/AI-driven workflows, tools, and automation to streamline production and post-production workflows, enhancing content creation and operational efficiency.
- Define success through integration and scale—ensuring that the solutions developed become industry practices and are adopted with minimal direct involvement from Netflix.
- Maintain a one-team mindset and sustainable collaboration approach, fostering a globally aligned yet loosely coupled structure to maximize efficiency and knowledge sharing. Balance title enablement with long-term strategic projects and knowledge-sharing efforts, ensuring workloads remain sustainable and high-impact work isn’t sidelined.
- Prove impact through action—demonstrating the long-term value of the team’s work not just through strategy but through measurable outcomes that enhance the production ecosystem.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 10 years experience of practical/applied experience in production technology, workflow solutions, or production/post-production operations, either in on-set, studio, or technical roles.
- Strong ability to translate technical and operational workflows into practical, actionable strategies for productions.
- Extensive understanding of end-to-end production and post-production workflows. Including image capture, production, and post-production workflows with an ability to quickly analyze and reconcile external operations against those of Netflix.
- Knowledge of industry-standard tools, practices, and emerging trends in scripted production.
- Willingness and aptitude to educate both internal and external entities with varying degrees of knowledge.
- Ability to operate on a global scale, understanding regional variations in production practices and cultural sensitivities.
