Overview

The LME (Limited Maintenance Electrician) Apprenticeship Program guides apprentices to becoming exceptional journeymen through a personal mentor/apprentice relationship, individual instruction, on-the-job training, and classroom learning. This is apprenticeship work, learning to perform the full range of mechanical and specifically electrical machine maintenance work. The Apprenticeship program is a 2-year minimum commitment of schooling and on-the-job training.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Works with Supervisor, Unit Specialist, and trainer to perform basic machine electrical and mechanical repairs. Works directly with and under the watch of a senior LME.
  • Utilizes fabrication skills to assist in department projects as assigned.
  • Actively engages and participates in the department's continuous improvement efforts.
  • Demonstrates behaviors and attitudes that emphasize and focus on permanent resolutions to problems.
  • Maintains maintenance records in a CMMS (Cribmaster), and orders preventive maintenance (PM) supplies as needed.
  • Cross-trains on various types of machines to act as a backup in the absence of more experienced Maintenance Mechanics.
  • Follows and adheres to all ISO, OSHA, and DEQ requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Generally requires 3-5 years of experience maintaining and repairing equipment.
  • Demonstrated experience in advanced troubleshooting and mechanical aptitude.
  • Must be able to fulfill the minimum qualifications of Maintenance PM Mechanic II.
  • Must maintain enrollment in the LME Apprentice program by attending school and keeping grades within standards.
  • Understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic functions. In-depth machine operations and ability to turn on and move all types of equipment including CNCs (Computer Numeric Controls).
  • Working knowledge of computers and the ability to learn new computer programs such as CMMS (CribMaster).
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and troubleshoot problems when necessary. Must also be able to interpret machine part books used in this position.
  • Understanding of tolerance required on production machinery as well as the ability to fabricate repair parts for these machines.
  • Must either hold HazMat certification or become certified within the first year of employment. All required licensures must be maintained and kept up to date.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise maneuver up to 35 pounds with or without assistance on a routine basis. Must have manual hand dexterity to grasp, operate tools and equipment repetitively. Able to walk, stand, sit, bend, reach, and occasionally kneel, climb steps, and twist throughout an entire shift. Some areas may be exposed to chemicals, noise, vibration and /or dust, and require the use of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE); such as, but not limited to safety glasses, hearing protection, foot protection, etc.
