Job Description:

As a Mechanical Assembler, you will leverage your mechanical aptitude to understand the functions of entire assemblies, anticipate potential issues based on design and fit, and safely use slings, hoists, and other lifting equipment for moving heavier components within the shop. You will interpret and apply torque specifications to ensure proper assembly and prevent damage, and perform precision tasks such as tubing bending, air and water line plumbing, and operating fixture jigs for accurate assembly practices.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform assembly tasks with a deeper understanding of mechanical functions.
  • Utilize basic rigging and lifting techniques safely within the shop.
  • Interpret and apply torque specifications for fasteners.
  • Bend tubing to specified radii and angles using tube bending equipment.
  • Run air lines and tubing, making connections with push-to-connect or compression fittings.
  • Run water lines and plumbing, identifying common fittings, assembling and connecting lines, and performing basic leak tests.
  • Work with fixture jigs to ensure accurate and repeatable assembly practices.
  • Participate in basic root cause analysis to identify assembly issues or defects.
  • Understand mechanical aspects of electrical component interfacing.
  • Interpret hydraulic drawings and symbols.
  • Thread pipe using manual or powered equipment.
  • Perform grinding, reaming, and honing to achieve precise dimensions and finishes.
  • Execute tack welding for component alignment and temporary holding.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Actively participate in problem-solving and process improvement initiatives.
  • Train and mentor Tier 1 Assemblers.
  • Adhere to all safety procedures and company policies.
  • Report assembly issues and propose solutions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Skills:

  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience as a Mechanical Assembler, maintenance technician, or equivalent.
  • Strong mechanical skills and aptitude.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting mechanical assembly, water, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics.
  • Ability to perform doweling and level machine assemblies.
  • Intermediate-to-expert shop math and measurement skills.
  • Proficient understanding of mechanical principles, tolerances, and fits.
  • Ability to identify basic GD&T in engineering drawings.
  • Possession of own hand tools and mobile toolbox.
  • Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring instruments.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Intermediate-to-expert problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Strong work ethic and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.
