Job Description

Assignment Level II

Under direction, with broad latitude for independent or unreviewed action or decision-making, performs responsible professional and/or supervisory work in the field of psychology. In addition to performing duties of Assignment Level I at a more difficult and responsible level, also performs the following tasks:

Examples of Typical Tasks:

1. Supervises the work of unlicensed psychologists and other subordinate staff in the areas of diagnosis, therapy, and research, and coordinates their activities with the work of other professional workers.

2. Evaluates and develops habilitation plans and treats individuals for addictions, cognitive impairments, and neuropsychological disorders.

3. Administers therapy in difficult atypical cases, which may include individual, group and family counseling and/or therapy.

4. Coordinates training programs and conducts case conferences and seminars for training purposes.

5. Gives formal and informal instruction to psychologists and psychologists-in-training on diagnostic, therapeutic and research techniques.

6. Conducts in-service training programs by organizing and staffing conferences and seminars, drawing up curricula, and evaluating efficiency of programs.

7. May perform relevant clinical professional activities.

8. May be part of a 24-hour trauma team providing counseling/evaluation at crisis situations within the New York metropolitan area.

9. May work with City's Family Court System to conduct assessments for termination of parental rights, custody disputes, neglect and abuse cases. 10. May provide evaluations of fitness to proceed and pre-sentencing evaluations to Criminal Courts.

Minimum Qualifications

For Appointment to Assignment to Level II:

1. Valid license and current registration to practice as a Psychologist issued by the NYSED; or
2. Within six (6) months of appointment to this Level, must obtain valid license and current registration to practice as a Psychologist issued by the NYSED and provide proof that all of the following documentation has been submitted to the NYSED:

a. Proof of passing licensing examination for Professional Practice in Psychology (EPPP) by the Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards (ASPPB).

b. Application for Licensure (Form 1).

c. Certification of Professional Education (Form 2).

d. Reports of Professional Experience/Certifications of Supervised Experience (Form 4). Note: Post-doctoral experience in NYS must have been obtained under a NYS Limited Permit.

e. If already licensed in another State, Certification of Out-of-State Licensure and Exam Grades (Form 3) and Certification of Licensed Experience (Form 4F) should be substituted for Form 4 above.

Department Preferences

General tasks and responsibilities will include:

• Provide direct patient evaluation and supportive care to CFS and adult CPEP patients
• Make differential psychiatric diagnoses and other determinations to better understand CFS and CPEP patients’ individual psychiatric and psychosocial needs, enabling interventions and referrals tailored to those needs.
• Facilitate appropriate referrals of CFS patients to longer-term clinical and other supports.
• Closely monitor CFS patients to quickly address safety and other concerns that may arise.
• Document evaluation and diagnostic findings, interventions, outreach, and outcomes in the electronic medical record.
• Participate in clinical conferences, team and family meetings, and consult with other professional staff and external agencies.
• Assist in the creation, coordination, and implementation of psychology internship, post-doctoral, and externship programs, including selecting trainee candidates, developing policies and procedures, planning assignments, providing orientation and training seminars, and supervising students in field placements.
• Attends and presents at staff and external conferences. May perform special projects.
• Review literature and attend conferences and training programs to stay informed of developments in behavioral health.
• Demonstrates knowledge of and adherence to standards of federal, state and local regulatory agencies, the Health and Hospitals Corporation, Mt. Sinai Services, and American Psychological Association.

• Doctoral degree from an APA-accredited clinical, school, health or counseling psychology program
• Completion of an APA-accredited internship
• Proficiency in evidence-based psychology practices; sophisticated therapeutic and evaluation skills; familiarity with a range of complex psychopathology; comfort working with persons with serious mental illness and/or compound stressors; sensitivity to multicultural issues; and the capacity to juggle multiple, sometimes competing responsibilities.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills to facilitate good working relationships with colleagues, supervisors, support staff, interdisciplinary professionals, patients, patients’ families, and external agencies
• Experience in settings that require the provision of culturally competent, outcome-oriented interventions that are based in research.
• Experience supervising psychology trainees, and a commitment to training the next generation of psychologists.

In addition to base compensation, you will receive $4,855 annually if you are currently registered and possess a New York State license to practice as a psychologist.
