Specific Job Title: Data & Reporting Specialist — Law School

Reports to: Law School Registrar

Job Summary:

The Data and Reporting Specialist will serve as the lead for data management systems, applications, and report writing for the Law School Registrar's office. The Specialist will create, design, develop, and run reports based on end-user needs using Argos and Ellucian Insights. This position will control and maintain comprehensive information resources; ensure consistency and integrity of data; and oversee the collection and reporting of complex information. The Specialist will develop and write detailed reports based on collected data, ensuring accuracy and clarity. The person in this position will also conduct the implementation and management of surveys, including designing and analyzing survey results. This role combines report writing, technical support, data analysis, and survey management to enhance administrative decision-making processes.

The candidate must interpret data, including statistical values, provide advice and consultation, and make recommendations for adjustments. The Specialist will provide assistance and training to system users.

This position reports to the Law School Registrar. This person will represent the Law School at data and IT meetings and serve as a liaison to St. John's University IT offices and student teams within St. John's University.

Essential Functions:

  • Utilize data and process automation to support the Law School in efficient reporting and making data-driven decisions.
  • Create reports using Argos and Insights. Work closely with the University IT department to support the conversion from Access to Argos reporting.
  • Work with complex and dynamic data sets, ensuring data security and privacy.
  • Provide training for self-service reports and develop a process manual for data reporting.
  • Must have the ability to work in a team-based environment and communicate with technical and non-technical staff and faculty; can set and meet aggressive deadlines; and be responsive to planned and ad hoc requests.
  • Be a collaborative, innovative, strategic, and creative problem-solver with a demonstrated track record of building/supporting a data-driven culture and producing timely, accurate reports in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Oversee the operation and management of class climate surveying applications, ensuring smooth execution and accurate data collection.

Competencies:

  • Possess excellent oral, written, and technological skills (Experience in Ellucian Banner and Argos or other SQL-based reporting).
  • Expert-level, demonstrable experience in developing reports and complex queries, and reporting metrics required.
  • Comprehensive data reporting and analysis skills required.
  • Knowledge of Class Climate Survey Application.
  • Advanced organizational, time management, and process management skills.
  • The ability to use sound judgment in all situations and discretion with confidential data required.
  • Strong interpersonal and analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively relate to multiple constituencies.
  • Understanding of FERPA preferred.

Work Environment:

This position operates in a professional office environment. This position requires the use of standard office equipment such as personal computers, printers, etc.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, move about, sit, carry work and use controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, and communicate. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 5 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by the employee include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, the ability to adjust focus, etc.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is a permanent full-time position. It is full-time (Monday through Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.).

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • 3-5 years relevant data analysis or registrar reporting experience, preferably in a professional school (e.g., law, business, medical)

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Knowledge of SQL
  • Experience in Ellucian Banner and Argos reporting
  • Knowledge of Class Climate and Survey Applications
  • Knowledge in Higher Operations

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual salary range is either $64,350 - $71,000 for those with 1-3 years of experience or $72,700 - $85,000 for those with 3-5 years of experience. St. John’s University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.

This position may be relocated to any of St. John’s University’s physical locations at any time.
