Purpose:
The Director of Policy Audit leads a team responsible for the independent validation of actuarial models across the organization. This role involves conducting in-depth analysis and critique of models, evaluating their application, performing rigorous testing, and delivering comprehensive reports that highlight findings and recommend actionable solutions to identified issues.
Accountabilities:
- Lead a team to perform and document independent model testing and validation including:
- Quarterly static and dynamic validation to assess liability and asset model inputs
- Assessing the model’s accuracy through various tests (e.g., model replication, benchmarking, back testing, sensitivity analysis, stress testing, etc.)
- Ensure proper implementation of new products
- Assessing the model’s output for relevance and reasonableness
- Demonstrating that the model is robust and stable
- Assessing potential limitations
- Evaluating the models behavior over a range of input values
- Establish key relationships with
- Actuarial Model Development Team
- Actuarial Reporting Teams (GAAP/STAT/EBS/etc..)
- Product Management Group
- Internal and External Auditors
- Present findings to internal stakeholders
- Maintain and update Microsoft Excel based model validation tools
- Provide support to internal and external auditors
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Finance, or related degree.
- ASA / FSA preferred or directly related experience commensurate
- 7+ years of actuarial experience or 9+ years of commensurate annuity/audit experience
- Experience with validating complex corporate actuarial models and knowledge of annuity products, financial markets, and actuarial finance preferred
- Actuarial software experience with MG-ALFA is preferred.
- Experience in MS Office (Excel, VBA, Access, etc.)
- Knowledge of a programming language preferred (SAS, Python, VBA, etc..)
- Strong organizational, communication and leadership skills and the ability to develop working relationships are required
- Experience with US Statutory Reporting and US GAAP Reporting would be beneficial
- Strong technical, analytical, organizational, computer and team skills
- Proven leadership experience and the ability to prioritize workload to meet deadlines
- Strong communication skills and the ability to establish and maintain strong relationships within the company
