Job Summary
Under general supervision of the Team Lead Adjuster, or Adjuster, Set-up/Lead, sets up and adjusts envelope folding machines for safe and efficient operation in the production process. This includes the start-up, operation, adjustments to proper parameters involving close tolerances, maintenance, troubleshooting, and cleaning of the equipment.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities (*Essential Functions)
These are functions a qualified incumbent or applicant must be able to perform with or without reasonable accommodation.
- At the start of the shift, review work order to determine tools, parts and materials necessary for machine changes, obtain approval from Team Lead Adjuster or Adjuster Trainer on start-up of new orders.
- If continuing an order that is already running, review work order and inspect order processed on machine during the previous shift for correctness of folding, gumming, printing, count and packaging;
- Assists in performing changes, adjustments and repairs on production machines in accordance with estimated change times; note any delays on work order under the guidance of the Team Lead Adjuster or Adjuster Trainer.
- Troubleshoot problems, repairs/replaces damaged worn components of the machine.
- Continuously monitor assigned machine and performance of operators to ensure quality and run speed standards are being met.
- Adjust machine and guides during production run while conducting visual and auditory monitoring of machine.
- Examines, tests and measures product from assigned machine. Examines product for defects, ensures quality process is followed.
- Analyzes mechanical issues on assigned machine and takes corrective action accordingly.
- Minimizes waste by ensuring all waste is segregated properly, weighed, recorded and placed in proper waste containers.
- Ensure support materials are available to maximize efficiency.
- Notifies Team Lead Adjuster or Adjuster Trainer of any problems so that corrective action can take place.
- Ensure all parts are cleaned and returned to assigned areas at completion of order.
- Return ink, glue, skids, plates, etc., to assigned areas.
- Review condition of all panel cutting dies with Team Lead Adjuster or Adjuster who Trainee is working with once they are removed from machines; return dies to proper area of plant.
- Ensure all check sheets, time reports and other paperwork are filled out correctly and completely.
- Maintain clean, safe work area free of debris and adhesives. Ensure Production area is swept, may wash floor, removes waste, cleans machines, cleans cabinets; cleans the sink, etc.
- Perform essential functions of the operator during breaks.
- Relay any special instructions or important information pertaining to machine performance to next shift upon their arrival.
- Monitor machine shutdowns where applicable to ensure proper wash up of machines at end of shift; ensure work area is clean.
- Complies with Company policy including safety rules and regulations (wear proper safety attire; steel toed shoes or coverings, hearing protection, safety glasses, shields and gloves as needed), is not involved in horseplay or unsafe acts, is cautious when near equipment and machines, always makes sure safety guards are in place and operational.
- Follows all applicable safety procedures concerning equipment operation, machine and tool operation and repair/installation work.
- Attend monthly safety meetings as requested/scheduled.
Other (Non-Essential) Functions
Includes functions which are normally performed by persons holding this title. However, these functions may be reassigned to other employees as part of a "Reasonable Accommodation" under the ADA.
- May act as machine operator to cover breaks or meal periods.
- Other duties and assignments as required.
Job Requirements
- High School education or equivalent.
- High degree of mechanical aptitude.
- Previous printing experience preferred but not required.
- Excellent mechanical and troubleshooting skills
- Good communication skills, i.e. ability to work effectively with coworkers and communicate with all levels of management.
- Willingness to work overtime as needed.
Physical Requirements & Environmental Conditions
- Requires frequent standing, walking, carrying, bending, stooping, grasping, and reaching.
- Ability to perform a volume of mechanical detail work with speed and accuracy; manual dexterity.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., carry 50 lbs., push 100 lbs., pull 75 lbs.
- Exposure to noise; must wear hearing protection and safety shoes.
