Job Description: The Community Transition Assistant Liaison will provide support to the instructional program with specific responsibilities for supporting vocational, social, leisure, and ADL experience opportunities for individuals with disabilities by assisting students with pre-employment and employment skills; providing information and/or direction to students; and promoting programs with staff and parents.

Contractual rate of pay; contingency upon funding

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Associate’s degree OR
  • 48 college credits OR
  • Passing score of 461 on the ParaPro Test

Teacher Assistant Training Program Certificate

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND CURRICULAR LINKAGES

  • Assist teachers and related staff for the purpose of supporting lesson plans and/or developing students' skills in areas which may include vocation, social, leisure, and ADL. (Activities of Daily Living refer to those activities providing the student to be an active member and participant in society. Examples to include liaison will support and assist students in transportation activities such as riding RIPTA, social activities such as field trips to community campus, assisting in utilizing money and making choices in restaurants.
  • Assist in employer and school partners for the purpose of meeting the work education objectives.
  • Assist students in job search skills for the purpose of informing them of employment and career options.
  • Maintain a variety of confidential and non-confidential manual and electronic lists and records for the purpose of documenting activities and/or providing reliable information.
  • Monitor and document student performance in a variety of tasks including work sites according to program guidelines (e.g. visits job sites, obtains employer evaluations) for the purpose of identifying areas requiring additional training on techniques and methods for maintaining solid work skills.
  • Monitor student's job locations for the purpose of ensuring safety.
  • Participate in a variety of meetings, workshops and committees (e.g. community sponsored events, award ceremonies, career events, etc.) for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions and remaining knowledgeable of program guidelines.
  • Prepare a variety of documents, reports and written materials (e.g. reports, instructions, memos, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to parents and staff, providing written support, developing recommendations and/or conveying information.
  • Respond to inquiries from a variety of internal and external sources for the purpose of providing information and/or direction as may be required.
  • Support students in transportation issues in preparing them for testing, interviews, and obtaining proper documentation to meet transition goals.
  • Tutor students in all skills areas (e.g. work requirements, interviewing skills, self determination, etc.) for the purpose of enhancing their readiness for independence.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
  • Must be willing to participate in training and become certified as a job coach
  • Must be willing to participate in de-escalation training.
  • Must attend program specific professional development sessions.
  • Must have reliable transportation and will be reimbursed for mileage.
  • Ineligible for bus monitoring duties at school.
