POSITION SUMMARY

Performs a variety of functions necessary for meal service. Maintains a clean and orderly environment, and washes equipment and utensils according to standard practices and procedures. Assists with assembling patient trays, special events, and cafeteria meal services. Complies with regulatory requirements.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education:

  1. High School Graduate or equivalent preferred.

Experience:

  1. Previous food service experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  1. Must be able to read and follow directions.
  2. Must have good eye hand coordination in the performance of numerous tasks.

License/Certification/Registration:

  1. None required.

Receives direct supervision from the department manager and supervisors.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1) Readies food items for meal service needs.

a) Portions and plates food for patient, cafeteria and special function meals, as directed, following standard procedure.

b) Mixes and portions nutritional supplements for patient meal service, as directed by Diet Clerk or supervisor.

c) Assembles sandwiches and platters, as directed by production personnel.

d) Fills hot beverage containers for patient meal, following standard procedures, assuring temperature retention.

e) Makes coffee and related hot beverages, following standard procedures, immediately prior to the need for the product.

f) Toasts breads, bagels, muffins and similar products for meal service needs, following standard practices, assuring proper timeliness and quality of the product.

g) Restocks supplies, as necessary, assuring adequate supplies for meal service.

2) Provides meal service in the cafeteria, assuring continuous service.

a) Assembles and places all necessary food and supply items in the cafeteria, following standard practices, prior to meal service needs.

b) Serves customers in the cafeteria, assuring minimal waiting time.

c) Restocks supplies, as necessary, assuring adequate supplies for meal service.

d) Collects customer money at the cash register, as customers complete the service line, assuring correct per item charges and exchanges on monies.

3) Assists in the assembly of patient trays.

a) Provides accurate patient tray service assembly at the station assigned by the supervisor.

b) Demonstrates ability to accurately and efficiently work all tray line positions as assigned by the supervisor.

c) Distributes tray carts to patient care areas, immediately as carts are ready for delivery.

4) Performs cleaning and sanitation services in the department according to schedule.

a) Following schedules and standard procedures, cleans equipment and surfaces in the cafeteria, documenting activities on daily log.

b) Empties returned tray carts, sort and rinses flatware and dinnerware, loads, operates and unloads dishwasher, and stacks or stores washed items as required, ensuring efficient operation.

c) At completion of dishwashing activity, empties machine and completes cleaning and dismantling activities according to standard practice.

d) Cleans and sanitizes food carts and dollies prior to each meal service, following standard practices.

e) Washes and sanitizes pots, pans, serving equipment and other utensils and equipment, as assigned by supervisor, following standard practices.

f) Collects and disposes of departments refuse.

g) Performs general cleaning and sanitation duties, as assigned by supervisor.

5) Participates in providing meal service to special functions

a) Assembles items for special function events, as directed by supervisor, assuring readiness prior to the event.

b) Delivers special function meals to their designated service area at the specified time.

6) Participates in Quality Assurance and Quality Control activities in the department.

a) Measures and records dish machine-operating temperatures daily, reporting exceptions to the supervisor.

b) As assigned, measures food temperatures, making recordings of specified menus.

c) As assigned, records refrigeration and freezer temperatures at the beginning of the shift, reporting exceptions to the supervisor.

7) Participates in in-service and continuing education programs sponsored by the department or Medical Center.

a) Attends 100% of in-service programs required of this job classification.

b) Attends continuing education programs to enhance professional growth and development.

NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Performs related and miscellaneous duties as assigned.
