We are seeking a highly skilled and visionary Chief Engineer to lead our Algorithm and Software groups within our Advanced Product Development team. The Chief Engineer – Algorithm and Software will play a crucial role in shaping the architecture and design of our automotive electronic systems, ensuring they meet current and future demands for performance, reliability, and scalability. This position requires a critical thinker with deep technical expertise, strong leadership capabilities, and a passion for pioneering new technologies in the automotive sector. This role will be responsible for development of algorithm functions and features as well as the implementation of them in embedded software.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead the design, development, testing and implementation of advanced algorithms, ensuring that they meet high standards of performance, safety and reliability.
- Develop global Advanced Product Development (APD) engineering team of diverse capabilities, to deliver product-relevant algorithms, SW and development tooling for prototype, demonstration and/or production release targets. Maximize expertise development in the team.
- Assure team is working to an actively managed development plan, serving Advanced Development Roadmap and customer delivery objectives.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including divisional hardware and software engineering, product management, and quality assurance, to define system requirements and specifications.
- Develop and maintain relationships with and solicit input of key technical leaders across the Stoneridge customer base.
- Develop and maintain a Product technical and feature roadmap, serving the strategic direction of Advanced Development group and Voice of Customer, anticipating market trends. Specific areas include camera-based products, high compute ADAS platforms, Display & HMI, Imaging and Optics, SoCs etc.
- Lead the evaluation and adoption of emerging technologies and industry trends to maintain a competitive edge.
- Coordinate with external partners, suppliers, and customers to align system architectures with business and technical requirements.
- Prepare and present technical documentation, reports, and presentations to stakeholders, including senior management and customers.
- Manage technical risks and issues, implementing robust solutions to mitigate potential challenges.
- Ensure compliance with relevant automotive standards and regulations (e.g., ISO 26262, ASPICE).
- Drive the development and implementation of system-level architectures that integrate hardware, software, and communication protocols.
- Oversee the system integration process, ensuring seamless interaction between various components and subsystems.
- Define integration test strategy and overall product performance
- Support SoC/component analysis, selection, performance benchmarking, HW design
- Support Software Architecture, resource allocation, dynamic behavior definition
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to the engineering team, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.
- Develop team members through training, coaching and collaboration.
- Cultivate a work environment that promotes and reinforces SRI Values and Competencies, facilitates employee engagement and inspires active participation of all team members.
- Set and manage annual performance goals and objectives for each team member, including to give/receive feedback during the established feedback cycles.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.
- 10+ years of experience in systems architecture, with at least 2 years in a leadership role within the automotive industry.
- Deep understanding of automotive electronic systems, including embedded systems, real-time operating systems (RTOS), and communication protocols (e.g., CAN, LIN, Ethernet).
- Experience with advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) or autonomous driving technologies, electronic circuits, components and devices (SoC-based, High-Speed design, Camera etc.) .
- Proficiency in system design and modeling tools (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink, SysML, UML).
- Experience in machine-learning / AI / neural networks.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong collaboration and understanding of effective communication; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Strong project management skills.
- Experience with model-based design and development.
- Familiarity with automotive industry development processes and tools (e.g., AUTOSAR, V-Model).
- Strong knowledge of safety-critical system design and functional safety standards (e.g., ISO 26262) and ASPICE standards.
- Knowledge of cybersecurity principles and practices in automotive applications.
LOCATION AND TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
- The position is based in Novi, MI. The position requires four (4) days in-office and allows one (1) day remote work.
- Approximately 10% travel required for this position.
