Summary: The Chief Data & Analytics Officer (CDAO) is responsible for leading how Envision Healthcare uses data to create business value. This role sets the vision and strategy for data and analytics across the organization and ensures that key initiatives are successfully delivered. The CDAO oversees the development of data capabilities, builds trust in high-quality data, and promotes a culture that uses data to make better decisions.

- Leads and executes the data strategy by defining and driving the execution of a clear data and analytics vision, strategy, and roadmap, partnering with the Senior Executive Team to assess the current state, define the future state, and implement a plan to improve data maturity across the organization.
- Aligns data with business value working closely with business leaders to position data as a strategic asset, identifying opportunities to use data and analytics to solve business problems, improve performance, and create new value.
- Champions data-driven decision making by serving as the organization’s lead advocate for using data to inform decisions, automate processes, and enhance performance promoting the use of insights and analytics to support both strategic and day-to-day business needs.
- Realigns and strengthen the D&A function establishing and evolving an operating model for data and analytics that supports the strategy. Realigning teams, roles, and processes to ensure the right capabilities are in place to deliver results by establishing clear accountability and standardizing delivery lifecycles to improve efficiency and ensuring the right capabilities are in place to deliver results.
- Builds organizational capability and talent, leading efforts to grow data literacy, develop internal talent, and foster a culture that embraces data by investing in upskilling the D&A team through training, mentorship, and career development opportunities and building a high-performing, agile team equipped to meet evolving business needs.
- Oversees delivery and execution ensuring consistent and efficient delivery of data products, analytics solutions, and insights. Implementing best practices and delivery models that support speed, quality, and business relevance and continuously streamlining processes to minimize the time, effort, and complexity required to access and work with data.
- Establishes and implements strong data governance by developing and enforcing governance frameworks that ensure data quality, consistency, security, and compliance. Identifying and standardizing critical data elements and key metrics, establish clear data ownership and data stewardship of data assets, and oversee policies and practices for responsible data use, including algorithm transparency and ethical data management.
- Expands data assets, identifying and integrating new data sources that can unlock innovation and business value while ensuring data is accessible, reliable, and aligned with business needs.
- Advances technology platforms by leading the modernization of the enterprise’s data and analytics platforms to support digital transformation and future growth. Consolidating legacy tools and systems, streamlining the technology stack, and implementing scalable, cloud-based solutions that improve performance, reduce complexity, and support innovation.
- Drives AI and advanced analytics growth, provide leadership in expanding the organization’s use of advanced analytics (e.g., artificial intelligence and machine learning) as these capabilities grow over time. Collaborating with enterprise architecture, business application owners, service lines, and clinical support functions to pilot and scale data science and AI initiatives that align with strategic goals.

- Business Intelligence & Analytics: Deep understanding of diagnostic, descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive analytics to support data-informed decision-making across the organization.
- Data Science & AI: Familiarity with advanced analytical techniques including machine learning, natural language processing, and graph analytics to drive innovation and automation.
- Information Architecture & Data Management: Knowledge of modern data architectures (e.g., data mesh, fabric, lakes, warehouses, hubs) and data management practices including integration (ETL), metadata, and asset management.
- Data Governance & Compliance: Experience implementing governance frameworks such as master data management (MDM), data quality, stewardship, and regulatory compliance related to data privacy and security.
- Data Structures & Statistical Acumen: Proficiency in working with structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data, with a solid grasp of statistical principles including the distinction between correlation and causation.
Education/Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, science technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), computer science; data science; information systems or related field required (or equivalent work experience).
- 20+ years of business experience in IT management.
- 5+ years of progressive leadership experience in leading cross-functional teams, multidisciplinary environments and enterprise-wide data and analytics programs, operating and influencing effectively across the organization and within complex contexts.
- Broad business experience in healthcare or other highly regulated industries is desired.
- Experience with core data and analytics platforms include Snowflake, Tableau, and AWS.
- Experience in integrating complex, cross-corporate processes and information strategies, and/or designing strategic metrics and scorecards.
- Strategy and management consulting experience desirable.
