Position Description

Instructor of United States History- Temporary – part time

Job Duties

1. Teach in-person History 17A (US History from the colonial period through 1865);

2. Teach in-person History 17B (US History from 1865 through present day);

3. Teach in-person History 1 (US History since 1900);

4, Teach in-person History 4A and/or History 4B (Western Civilization)

5. Participate in curriculum development;

6. Participate in other faculty responsibilities and duties as appropriate, such as department

and campus committee work as well as professional development activities;

7. Perform professional duties including, but not limited to, testing, grading, maintaining grade book, maintaining student attendance records, assessing and submitting student learning outcomes (SLO’s), etc.;

8. Teach day and/or evening, and/or Saturday classes at any of the College’s campuses as required;

9. Supports and engages in an innovative culture of culturally responsive, inclusive and anti-racist practices as it relates to student success with an awareness of student equity gaps.

10. Participates in ongoing training on diversity, equity, inclusion and anti-racism to center pedagogy.

11. Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

City College of San Francisco Minimum Requirements

Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities to work with community college students with disabilities, various sexual orientations, and diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds (Required).

Earned Master’s Degree or higher in History from an accredited institution with demonstrable emphasis (major) in United States History (at least 5 upper division and/or graduate level courses);

Desirable Qualifications

1. Previous experience teaching United States History at the community college level or the

equivalent;

2. Experience and/or training in teaching online.

3. Previous teaching experience in college-level United States History courses;

4. Previous teaching experience in Western Civilization;

5. Demonstrated experience in working with people of various racial and ethnic backgrounds and sexual orientations.
