Job Description:

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Quality Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of quality control and assurance across Les Schwab’s distribution, production, and store operations. This includes establishing and maintaining quality standards and procedures, as well as collaborating across the organization internally and externally with suppliers. The Quality Manager works closely with Product Strategy, Purchasing, Adjustments Department, Store Sales Support, and supplier quality teams to identify and resolve quality issues. The scope of the position entails quality for tires, boxed products, retread production, and all supplier recalls.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

20% - Supplier Quality Issue Management

  • Own the process of managing a quality issue across the Les Schwab supply chain, included but not limited to LS Distribution centers, LS retread production center, and LS store network
  • Provide additional support, guidance and direction to quality personnel (adjustments center staff) during the time of a quality issue, in partnership with other leadership team members

20% - Supplier Quality Metrics

  • Analyze quality data and generate reports to identify trends, root causes of defects, and opportunities for quality improvement and early detection of issues
  • Report on, ensures, and improves measurable performance metrics for supplier quality
  • Communicates and addresses shortfalls in supplier performance.
  • Escalates both internally and externally any quality related issue including mitigation proposals to ensure optimal supply chain performance
  • Leverage metrics to drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product quality and customer satisfaction

20% - Quality System Management

  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve the company's quality management system
  • Establish quality control procedures, testing protocols, and inspection processes for tires and boxed parts
  • Support quality systems development and integrations across headquarters (ERP), supply chain operations (WMS), and store operations (POS)

20% - Product Recall Management

  • Serve as the primary liaison between the company and external regulatory bodies or customers on quality-related matters, including management of manufacturer related recalls
  • Manage all store and legal communications regarding the handling of manufacturer recalls

10% - Contractual Quality Agreements

  • Coordinate the initialization and/or the review of Dealer Agreements and private label manufacturing agreements with the manager of procurement, internal legal department, and suppliers.
  • Negotiate with Purchasing Managers the contractual tire quality management contractual agreements including tire warranties, tire uniformity limits, etc.

10% - Other

  • Participates in department improvement activities such as educational sessions, technology/systems improvement projects, Company or Department initiatives, and related inter-department work
  • Various projects as assigned by the VP of Supply Chain

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Educational/Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering preferred
  • 5-7 years progressive experience in quality management, preferably in a manufacturing/production environment
  • Automotive and/or Tire industry experience preferred

Required Technical Skills/Knowledge:

  • Strong computer skills with experience using Microsoft Windows and Google suite.
  • Expert Microsoft Excel and/or Google Sheets skills.
  • Demonstrated skills in supplier quality management.
  • CQM and/or 6 Sigma certifications preferred.

Physical Requirements:

Sedentary position; frequently required to sit, occasionally required to stand, walk, stop, kneel, and bend. Will require lifting of Commercial products up to 100lbs. Requires the ability to communicate verbally and exchange information over the phone, by video, and in person.

Work Environment:

2 of 5 business workdays in headquarters office (required), 2 of 5 business workdays in distribution/adjustments center(s) and/or retread production center(s) (required), 1 of 5 business days work from home (optional). Occasional travel to suppliers’ production facilities.
